Sept, 21 regarding a council resolution to vacate alleys in Block 10 of Watts Subdivision, Block 4 of Railway Addition, Block 3 of South Railway Addition and Block 3 (northsouth alley) of Railway Addition. By MELISSA GROSS Tribune Staff Writer WIS. RAPIDS Bernard Benkowski, 23, 3141 Reddin Road, pleaded guilty to second-degree sexual assault and kidnapping in Wood County Circuit Court Wednesday. Judge Edward Zappen ordered a pre-sentencing investigation. Benkowski is charged with forcing a 22-year-old city woman into his car on Feb.

23 in the 200 block of 1st Avenue South, before driving her to a wooded area on Reddin Road where he sexually assaulted her. Benkowski had also been charged with false imprisonment and possession of marijuana, but those charges were dismissed in court Wednesday at the recommendation of District Attorney Greg Potter. The false-imprisonment charge stemmed from a Feb. 12 incident during which Benkowski allegedly abducted an 18-year-old woman on Cook Avenue. Judge James Mason had placed Benkowski on a $2,000 recognizance bond on Feb.

13. When asked why those two charges were dismissed, Potter said the plea bargain had been made before he became district attorney on July 31. Former District Attorney Kevin Potter, Greg's brother, said today he made the plea bargain on the contingency that Benkowski plead guilty to the kidnapping and sexual-assault charges. "The false-imprisonment charge carries only "a two-year sentence," Kevin Potter said. 'The possession charge was almost incidental to everything else he just happened to have it on him at the time.

The second charge(s) carry a sentence of up to 30 years in prison." Kevin Potter, now chairman of the Tax Appeals Commission in Madison, said the additional two years Benkowski could receive for the dismissed charges were not worth the trauma the victims would have had to go through had the case gone to trial. He said he SERVING SENIORS: Jenny Ticknor (right) and Jenny Zellmer were among many volunteers helping Wood County Bank serve more than 1,400 people at Robinson Park Wednesday night during the bank's 13th annual Silver Citizens' Key Club Picnic.
