He graduated from Brockport Normal School, attended Columbia and Y.U. and received a in education He earned his master's degree in Dr. Theodore Thayer Early American History at the University of Buffalo, and his PHD from the University of Pennsylvania He was an instructor in history at both.

He was a history professor at Ithaca College and Cornell University both in Ithaca. the University of Washington in Seattle University of South Carolina at Columbia. SC.
