Virginia Tech intercepted six passes, and fullback Ken Edwards intercepted no telling how many would-be defenders. A 6-1, 202-pounder and a transplanted linebacker, Edwards sprinted and rammed for 197 yards in 17 carries. All the Seminoles will vouch that he does indeed do the 100 in 10-flat as billed. WHATEVER THIS happening was, it certainly was no fluke.

Making the most of three first-half interceptions, the Gobblers, en route to their fourth victory in seven starts, led 31-7 at intermission. Tech defenders hovered around the Seminoles' whiz receiver Ron Sellers like a bunch of doting mothers. 13 use Oregon USC Sogge USC tailed) ORE kick) ORE tumble 7 0 7 13 pass I-2fl 01 from Lawrence (Ayala kick) 'Simpson 1 run (kick Hearn 3 run (Woody Gleason recovered in end zone (kick tailed) Klein 3 Hasi trom (Ayala kick) Scgge The Yardstick VPI 12 382 53 43 FSU First Downs Rushing Yardage Passing Yardage Return Yardage Passes Punts Fumbles Lost Yards Penalized 28 142 265 56 19-49-6 237 1 52 7-15-0 5 1 120 Nevertheless, they chastised him severely the first three times he caught passes, drawing 15-yard penalties for roughing on each COLLEGE SOUTH VPI 40 Florida St 22 Auburn 24 Florida 13 Tampa 22 No. Mich. 19 Alabama 20 Miss.

C. State and Houston left. Here's how the scoring went: (1) Tech marched 80 yards and scored the first time it got the ball on a 32-yard field goal by Jack Simscak, a tremendous kicker in all departments on this evening. (2) Terry Smoot got a TD from three yards out after Tech's first interception set the Gobblers up at FSU's 15. (3) Cappleman tossed a 34-yard payoff strike to tight end Jim Tyson, the Seminoles most effective receiver in this one.

(4) Quarterback Al Kincaid passed 14 yards to Edwards after a second interception provided Tech a start at FSU's 28. (5) Edwards broke on an 88-yard scoring run just after the third interception. (6) George Constantinides burst up the middle on a 10-yard scoring run just after Florida State fumbled away the football trying a tricky lateral on a kickoff runback. (7) Simscak kicked a 28-yard field goal after interception No. 4.

(8) Tyson pulled in a 5-yard scoring pass from Cappleman after the Seminoles marched 63 yards on the heels of a recovered Tech fumble. (9) Kincaid bootlegged 12 yards and scored the first fourth-quarter points FSU has yielded this season. That followed interception No. 5. (10) Gary Pajcic pulled in a 25-yard scoring pass from Tommy Warren, who gave FSU a lift with his late-game scampering in his first service at quarterback.

THE GOBBLERS ran up a staggering 382 yards or. the ground, passed for just 53 as Kincaid hit cn seven of 15 throws. Tech's 435 yards of total offense topped FSU's 407, with 265 coming in the air as Cappleman completed just 18 of 45 for 240, and Warren one of four for 25. Tyson grabbed six throws for 112. Tech's aggressiveness cost 120 yards in penalties, while FSU was taxed with 52.

Ironically, FSU was obliged to punt only twice. Simscaic averaged 47 yards on five boots as Tech kept the Seminoles backed up most of the way. (UP1 Quarterback Steve Sogge's three-yard touchdown pass to end Bob Klein with 1:13 left gave Southern California's desperate top-ranked Trojans a 20-13 football victory over surprising Oregon Saturday. A 35-yard pass interference penalty call against Oregon's Jim Franklin gave Southern Cal the break it needed to remain unbeaten and untied in the Trojans' first visit ever to Eugene.

Oregon came back to drive to the Southern California eight-yard line where a last gasp pass failed with only 11 seconds to go. Simpson was just another player as Oregon held him to 67 yards, but the Heisman Trophy candidate passed the 1,000 yard mark for the season and scored one touchdown on a one yard plunge. Oregon, trailing 13-0 in the third period, scored two touch While Carter found his skilled pass receivers open when he needed them, the Auburn running attack was able to gain only 60 yards. Dwight Hu ston got 29 of them, but his biggest contribution was catching four passes for 76 yards.

A Carter to Hurston toss covering 39 yards set up the go ahead touchdown midway in the third quarter and was quickly followed by Carter's five yard pass to Christian alone in the 'end zone. Frederick took his first scoring toss behind the goal, also without being touched. On his second, he broke past the Florida defender and streaked 41 yards. (AP) -The fire-spouting Auburn Tigers spotted Florida 10 early points, then rode the passes of Loran Carter to a 24-13 victory that kept them on top of the Southeastern Conierence football standings.

Carter tossed two touchdown passes to Connie Frederick and one to Tim Christian. He completed 17 passes for 210 yards against what has been called the best pass defense in the SEC. The Florida Gators were fired up to a season peak and had a record homecoming crowd of 63,122 roaring at their heroics. But pass interceptions and fumbles let Auburn pull into a 10-10 tie at halftime and the visiting Tigers dominated the second half. Florida's starting quarterback, left-hander Jack Eckdahl, injured a leg and Larry Rentz, also hobbling on a bad leg, was thrown for several losses by the Auburn defense led by tackle David Campbell.

Alter the first quarter, Flori- da's only score wa3 a 23-yard field goal by Jack Your.gblood, which resulted from a Carter fumble. The early Gator scores came on a pair of long drives, Young-blood kicking a 31-yard field goal soon after the kickoff and Jim Yaibrough taking a five-yard pass from Eckdahl for a touchdown. Larry Smith, injured Florida fullback who leads the conference in rushing, was able to participate in four plays but netted, only eight yards and limped visibly on his brief appearance. The crowd gave him an ovation for his efforts in spite of leg, neck and shoulder injuries. His replacement, Jerry Vines-ett, led Florida rushing with 54 yards.
