Richard Bppne, the star and guiding spirit, thinks it's a question of respecting the actors.

"That's the first step," he says 'A program that doesn't use good actors and respect them isn't going to be very good. And I must admit that a majority of TV series are that other kind--the star is just after the money." One way an actor is shown respect is to. give him enough re- learsal time. Boone says that Have Sun, Will Travel adheres rigidly a schedule--one day of rehearsal, three days of shooting--which offers more rehearsal time than most series. "I had to lie down on the floor in front of the producer's desk," he says, "to get that schedule.

I really did. I stayed there on the floor until he agreed to give me full rehearsal day." Boone is bitter about critics who all Westerns together and mock them as a class. "Have Gun, Will Travel," he says, "is as hard a job of acting as that Lincoln play I did on Broadway or anything else." This is the third year for the show. He figures it's good for an overall run of five years. He'll do no more after that--he had two Betty Clooney Is Guest Champagne Lady Rosemary Clooney's sister, Betty, will emerge from retirement to make her first television appearance in four years as the gucsl Champagne Lady on "Lawrence Wclk's Dancing Party" at 6:30 p.m.
