st-fritmne JEFFERSON CITY, MISSOURI, FRIDAY AFTERNOON, MARCH 4, 1960 Gentleman Gunfighter Sheds Flowing Mane Faulkner's 'Tomorrow' Stars Richard Boone Richard-Boone sheds the flowing mane of the gentleman gunfighter, Paladin, for the crudely hacked locks of a poor southern farmer. Boone submitted to his first significant haircut in more than two years for his role as the William Faulkner hero, Jackson Fentry, in "Playhouse 90's" special production of "Tomorrow" at 8:30 p.m. Monday on KRCG-TV, Channel 13. The long locks of Paladin, the indomitable, phrase-making mercenary of "Have Gun, Win Travel" on the CBS Television Network, littered the floor of the make-up room at Television City, Hollywood, while Boone watched warfly in a mirror. -The scissors onslaught of barber Joseph Pinzone left Boone's scalp appearing exactly the way Boone wanted it--as if it had been rend- ered by an amateur.

"The character I play probably never had a professional haircut in his life," Boone explained. "Bos hair was always cut by his father, and'he, in turn, cut his father's hair." Boone's father in "Tomorrow," incidentally, is played by Charles Bickford, who is making his sizth starring appearance on "Playhouse 90." Neither actor, in 'Tomorrow," cuts the other's hair-- which is why Boone had to have his trimmed hi advance. Bickford has a date in the tonsorial parlor this weekend. Whether co-stars Kim Stanley, Chil Wills, Beulah Bondi and Elizabeth Patterson wiH have their hair cut before the show, on the program, or at all, currently is being debated at around-the-clock, high- level conferences. Boone's trim, meanwhile, leaves him Ineigible to play the pompa- doured Paladin for at least the next several weeks.

"This haircut," says Boone, "is perfect for Jackson Fentry. But I'm afraid it would come as a shock to Paladin!"
