The Herd will unveil the 2007 championship banner as well as present the Clark Cup to the city of Sioux Falls. BY MATT ZIMMER mzimmerargusleader.com Year one of the Kevin Hartzell era produced a 43-13-4 record, an Anderson Cup championship, and fell one win short of a Clark Cup title. Year two produced that elusive Clark Cup, the Sioux Falls Stampede's first ever USHL championship.

So what's in store for year three? "I honestly don't know, sitting here right now, what to expect or what we're going to see," Hartzell said. "I think it's ultimately not a matter of how good we are but how good we are compared to our competition." The Herd have some experienced for- early. "We've got some really talented forwards," said assistant captain Drewiske, entering his third year with the club. "I'm just hoping the chemistry can develop in the locker room. It's a great group of guys, and we're all excited to defend our championship." Max Strang, who backed up Clark Cup trophy after beating last season.

Riders sweep GDC Cross country teams win 2 titles BY ERIC BURSCH eburschargusleader.com The Roosevelt cross country teams got an obvious title and a surprise one Friday afternoon at Tuthill Park in the Greater Dakota Conference championships. 5 The link between the two victories was depth. GDC meet results 3C Both the Rough Rider boys and girls captured their victories thanks not only to their upfront runners on the girls side, Roosevelt sophomore Bailey Breems won her first conference title but more because of the talent throughout their roster.

On the girls side, Roosevelt had nine athletes beat runner-up Stevens' fifth and final scorer. For the boys, the Riders got seven runners across the line before any of their competitors. Led by Breems, who finished the course in 15:48 and third-place finisher Erin Hargens, Roosevelt easily beat defending champion Stevens 38-55. O'Gorman took third at 103. The team did really well," Breems said.

"Everybody needs to work as a team work together and run as individuals." Roosevelt's depth and dominance made it easy to see why the Riders had won the title as the runners sprinted to the finish line. That wasn't the case for the boys. The Patriots rallied in the third quarter to beat the Spartans and win their fifth game of the season. After 14-0 first-half deficit, Lincoln rallies to beat Spearfish BY TI6H J. LESSMAN For the Argus Leader The Lincoln Patriots overcame a 14-0 first-half deficit to beat Spearfish 28- 24 on Friday night at Howard Wood Field, improving to 5-2 this season. In a back-and-forth contest, Lincoln rallied from a 10-point halftime deficit to take a 21-17 third-quarter lead, but the Spartans re-took the lead, 24-21, just four minutes later. But the Patriots had the last John Heiberger game, and the Lincoln defense made the lead hold up.

Heiberger threw for two touchdowns on the night, both to Muilenburg. "It was a matchup. Our weaknesses were their strengths and vice versa," said Lincoln coach Aaron Beavers. "You have to hand it to our young guys. They could have folded after two interceptions in the red zone." Lee Washington, who ended the night with 10 tackles, intercepted the Spartans' Clint Mas ters late in the fourth quarter to preserve the victory.
