Scholten was individual champion at the state Class AA tourney and runner-up in 2005. Scholten won the SDGA Junior Championship in 2006 and was selected as the South Dakota Junior Golfer of the Year. In volleyball signing news, Augustana has landed Roosevelt standout ChantelTengwall among three signees, while South Dakota State has signed two out-of-staters.

Besides Tengwall, Augustana signed Liz Sutherland of Sioux City and Melanie Twait of Forest City, Iowa. Tengwall is a 5-foot-ll outside hitter. A two-year starter, she registered 257 kills, 21 blocks and a team-high 33 service aces as a junior. She earned all-Greater Dakota Conference and Class AA all-state team honors. "Chantel is a great athlete that is capable of playing in the middle and outside position," Coach Kim Sudbeck said.

"We feel that with the loss of two impact players in both of those positions, she will be a player that may make an impact in our program immediately." Sutherland is a 6-1 middle blocker from Heelan High. A three-year starter, she was selected to the all-state first team as a junior after earning all-state second-team honors as a sophomore. In 2005, she had 341 kills and hit .429 to go along with 153 blocks as she helped the Crusaders to a 49-7 record. Twait is a 5-6 liberosetter. A four-year starter, Twait is a two-time all-district and honorable mention all-state player during her sophomore and junior seasons.

Those teams have not been announced for this season. She has 844 assists, 138 digs and 35 service aces this season after collecting 537 assists and 84 digs as a junior. SDSU signed two outside hitters: 6-3 Annie Adams of Crosby, and 6-1 Ashley Kathol of Omaha. "These two players will have the opportunity to make an impact for the 2007 squad," Coach Andrew Palileo said. "They will provide size and length as we continue to progress in the Division I ranks." Adams earned all-conference and all-area honors, as well as player of the year honors from the Brainerd Daily Dispatch, during the 2006 season.

"Annie has the combination of size, strength and athleticism," Palileo said. "Her ability to get off the floor, along with her length, will provide us with power on the outside and also will make her a force blocking." Kathol earned all-conference honors this season and has been nominated for all-state honors after helping lead Skutt Catholic to the Nebraska District 3-B championship and a berth in the state tourney. "Ashley is a lefty who will bring depth on the right side," Palileo said. "Ashley will bring size, power and athleticism to an already athletic team. She has played at a high club level, which will make her transition to Division I volleyball quick- 1 p.m.
