PAGE EIGHTEEN 'Jury Fixing' To Be Checked In 3 Counties Rep. Purifoy Asks Investigation by Arkansas Council WTTLE ROCK, Dec. M. (AP) — Representative William Purifoy, Camdcn, yesterday asked for an Investigation of jury fixing In Ouachtta, Clark and Nevada counties. Purifoy, who represents Ouachita County in the legislature, introduced » resolution calling for such an Investigation in the Arkasas Legis- Intive council. .He asked the council to make an Investigation and recommend corrective legislation. The resolution stated that it Is generally Jcnowa "by public officials, practicing attorneys and lay citizens that the condition of tampering with Juries has been going on for some time." In discussini? the resolution before the council. Purifoy, himself and attorney, said that in civil cases attorneys had been able to "pack a complete jury" so that the attorney icnow.s in advance what the verdict will be. The council accepted and filed the resolution for consideration at a later dale. Rep. W. L Ward. Marianna, suggested that study also he made of the power given prosecuting attorneys to Indict or refuse to indict in criminal cases. Purlfoy said he was willing to accept such a study as part of his resolution and added "1 think the entire system of selectlni! Juries, both petit and grand Juries, should be Investigated."
