Springs Woman Dies Miss Parkhurst Active In Village BERRIEN SPRINGS A well-known Berrien Springs woman, Miss Cora Parkhurt, 96, died Monday at in the Berrien County hospital, Berrien Center, after a three week illnestiss Parkhurst, who resided at 312 West Pitt street, Berrien Springs, served several terms as Berrien Springs village treasurer; served as substitute librarian at the Sparks Memorial library for more than 25 years, and was employed by the Sparks Lumber Co. She served as the financial secretary of the Methodist church, taught Sunday school, and held state -offices in the Daughters of the American Revolution and was a past worthy matron of the Welcome Easter's chapter, Order of the Star. Miss Parkhurst served as a correspondent for this newspaper, the South Bend Tribune, the Niles Daily Star and she was a reporter for the Journal-Era, Berrien Springs weekly newspaper, She was born in Perrysburg, Ohio, Nov.

25, 1871. Surviving are several nieces and nephews residing in Three Rivers. Friends may call at the McLauchlin funeral home in Berrien Springs after 7 p. m. today.

Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home by the Rev. William Pohly, retired pastor of the United Methodist church, and the Rev. David Lutz, present pastor, Thursday at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Riverside cemetery in Three Rivers, Memorials may be made to the United Methodist church. Myers, died at 8:30 a.m. Monday in St. lotte, Joseph's Fla. He had been ill since hospital in Ft. Char1957.

Cassidy Rites Held Funeral services for Walter "Bud" Cassidy, 54, of 956 Pavone street, Harbor, who was killed. Saturday morning while walking along M-139 in Benton township by a hit and run driver, were held this morning at the Kerlikowske and Starks funeral home. The Rev.

Sidney Short of the First United Methodist church was to officiate. Burial was to follow in Riverview cemetery. Mr. Cassidy was born Feb. 8, 1915, in Gould City, Mich.

His wife, Almeda, died June 1962. He had worked for Industrial Rubber company since 1955. Survivors include three sisters, Mrs. George (Frances) Kesterke of St. Joseph, Mrs.

Bert (Helen) Cochran of Benton Harbor and Mrs. Mary Bowersox of Wyandotte; and a brother, Clayton Fountan of El Granada, Calif. Mr. Cassidy was a veteran of War II and served in the 126th Infantry, Red Arrow Division. Kline Rites Held Funeral services for Mrs.

Dena A. Kline, 72, of 2120 Colfax avenue, Benton Harbor, were held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Florin funeral home. The Rev. C.

WILBUR JARVIS Mrs. Laura A. Jarvis, 79, of 774 Broadway, Benton Harbor, was dead on arrival at Mercy hospital Saturday at 11:43 a.m. Mrs. Jarvis was born in Bloomingdale Sept.

25, 1888, and moved to Coloma with her parents at an early age. many years she had been employed. at the Cinderella and Stevens Dress shops in Benton Harbor, in 1965. She was a. the the Mercy retiring, hospital auxiliary.

Survivors include "her husband, whom she married July 22, 1911, in St. Joseph; three daughters, Mrs. Roger (Harriet) Dalziel and Miss Theda Jarvis of Benton Harbor and Mrs. George (Betty) Holmes of Jackson; a son, of St. Joseph; a Roy Leedy of Coloma; a sister, Mrs.

Anstey, 27, of 5326 Roosevelt road, Stevensville, died at 12:45 a.m. today, in Mercy hospital, where he had been a patient for the past four days. He had been ill for the past years. Mr. Anstey was born June 4, 1941, in St.

Joseph, and spent his life in this community. He was a graduate of St. Joseph Catholic high school and was treasurer of Anstey Foundery in Stevensville. On June 17, 1961, he married Linda Chaddock in St. Joseph.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Jane and Suzanne, and a son, David, all at home; his mother, Mrs. Anna Anstey of "St. Joseph; four brothers, Thomas, Richard and Donald Stevensville, and James of St. Joseph; three sisters, Janet and Kathleen of St. Joseph, and Mrs.

Ronald (Eileen) Theirback of Ft. Bragg, N.C. Mr. Anstey was a member of St. Joseph Catholic church, where funeral services will be held at a.m.

Ella Bowker Mrs. Ella S. Bowker, 86, of route 1, Benton Harbor, died at 1:35 a.m. Monday in Berrien General hospital at Berrien Center. Mrs.

Bowker was born March 30, 1882, in Constantine, the daughter of Frank and Ledah Whitmore. She was married to Herman Base, April 4, 1906, in Constantine. On Dec. 26, 1917, she was married to George Bowker in St. Joseph.

Mrs. Bowker was a member of the Berrien Coverlet Guild and a member of the Opportunity former, club and the Golden Agers. Survivors include a son, Frances Base of Benton Harbor; six grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren, A brother preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. in the Frost funeral Rev.

Duncombe, 80, of 451 West South street, Kalamazoo, died Sunday in Bronson hospital, Kalamazoo, following an auto accident in Otsego. Mrs. Duneombe was born in Keeler township, June 17, 1888, the daughter of Albert and Alice Peters Duncombe. She is survived by three cousins, C. M.

Shelp was 'born Feb. 1, 1910, in Prosser, The son Frank and Edith Shelp, he had resided in the South Haven area for -many years. He was employed for many years as a chef at Holly's restaurant. He was a veteran of World War II. He is survived by his widow, Vera, and a sister, May Keirnan of Grand Junction.

Joseph's cemetery, Watervliet. Rodney W. Hoadley THREE OAKS -Rodney W. Hoadley, 81, of .524 North -street, Niles, former Three Oaks resident, died at 6:15 p.m. Sunday in Niles Pawating hospital where he had been a patient for two months.

Mr. Hoadley, a retired farmer, was born in Three Oaks, July 22, 1887, the son of Rodney P. and Nellie Wright Hoadley. On March 17, 1915, he was married to Sylvia Ann Morley. She preceded him in death May 2, 1946.

On Feb. 5, 1951, he was married to Lena Jacobson in Cassopolis, who survives. Additional survivors include a son, Robert of Three Oaks; two stepsons, James J. and Harold O. Jacobson of Niles; 10 grandchildren; one greatgrandchild; a brother, Fred of Three Oaks; and a sister, Mrs.

Mabel Wright of Phoenix, Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Connelly-Noble funeral home, Three. Oaks. The Rev. Richard F.

Arent, pastor of the St. John United Church of Christ, officiated. Burial will be in Galien cemetery: Carson Griffis DOWAGIAC Carson C. Griffis, 68, of 205 East Prairie Ronde street, Dowagiac, died at 1 p.m. Saturday in Lee Memorial hospital, where he had been a patient for the past 10 days.

Mr. Griffis was born July 24, 1900, in Volinia township, the son of Carson J. Ida May Haefner Griffis. He married Esther Margaret Mott on April 14, 1923, in South Bend, Ind. She died April 21, 1968.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. George (Barbara) Lee of White Pigeon; two sons, Robert of Evansville, Ind. and Earl of Niles; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; four sisters, Hazel Hall 'of Dowagiac; Mrs. Lena Gray of Marcellus, Mrs. Bessie Cropsey of Cass county and Mrs.

Mildred Walker of South Bend. A brother, Archie, preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the McLauchlin funeral home in Dowagiac, with Rev. Dixon Stimpson of the Federated will church officiating.

251 Center street, South Haven, died Sunday, Sept. 1 at the Rest Wood Inn, South Haven. Mrs. Orton was born March 1, 1872, in Pine Bluff, Ark. Her husband, William Perry Orton, preceded her in death.

Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Lillian Rodgers of Rison, Mrs. Clara Ramey of Sherrill, Mrs. Vera Perkins of South Haven; and Mrs. Joecille Wallenstein of Miami, five sons, Charlie Orton of Dallas, Willie Kilgore of England, Buddy Orton of Altheimer, Jay Orton of South Haven, and William P.

Orton of Benton Harbor; 30 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. The body was taken to England, where burial will be in the Mulberry cemetery. He was born Feb. 2, 1885, in LaGrange County, and on 31, 1905 married Nina Pearl Cobbs in Churubusco, Ind. She died Aug. 2, 1960 in Buchanan. Mr.

Joseph, died at 4:30 p.m.' Saturday in the Mason General hospital at Mason, after suffering a heart attack while attending the All American Trailer Rally at Mason. Mr. Adent was born Feb. 8, 1924, in Chicago and lived in this community for the past 39 years. He was employed as a salesmen for Bartz Pontiac for the past 15 years.

On Nov. 15, 1947, he married Adeline Kubicki, in Chicago. He was a veteran of World II and served with the 788th Field Artillery Battalion. He was a past president of Travel Trailers Clubs of the Midwest. Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Kathleen; two sons, Kenneth- and Phillip, all at home; his mother, Mrs.

Benton Harbor, died at 8:20 p.m. Saturday in Mercy hospital where he had been a patient since Aug. 12. He had been ill for three months. Mr.

Carper was born Audubon, Iowa, April 19, 1907, and had lived in this community for 40 years. He had been employed by Ross Carrier Company and Clark Equipment Company since 1944. He was a member of Lakeshore Lodge No. 298 Calvin Britain Chapter No. 72 RAM; past eminent commander of Commandery No.

44 KT; member of the Saladin Temple AAONMS; past president of the CMD Management Club; and active in BentonHarbor Boys baseball programs. Mr. Carper had worked with Benton Harbor's young baseball players for 15 years and was a manager of Little League team when the program was first started here. In 1959, Mr. Carper was manager of the Benton Harbor Babe Ruth League All-Star team that was defeated in the state finals at Ypsilanti by Birmingham, 10-4.

Prior to that defeat, the Benton Harbor team had won five straight games in district and state play. In recent years, Mr. Carper was closely associated with his brother-in-law, law, Russ Jorgensen, in American Legion baseball. He was manager of the Merfrom 1963 until 1967 chants. business commitments made him retire from coaching.

Mr. Carper was also well known as a softball player in the area before becoming involved in the boys baseball program. Survivors include his widow, the former Elsie Jorgensen, whom he married Nov. 8, 1937, in Michigan City; a son, Eldon L. of Benton Harbor; and his mother, Mrs.

Alice Anderson of Audubon. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Florin funeral home. The Rev. George Hartmann, pastor of the United Methodist Peace Temple, of which Mr.

Carper was a member, will officiate. Burial will be in North Shore Memory Gardens. The Lake Shore Lodge No. 298 will conduct rites and the Malta Commandery will furnish an escort. Giesow Rites Held Funeral services for Mrs.
