(AP) -Comedian Whoopi Goldberg hostage incident in which a husband held women and children for 13 hours in a battered women's center in Lenoir. Hit-and-run driver hits Bernie Koppell BANNING, Calif. AP) Police had to sort through 18 aliases to identify the allegedly drunken hit-and-run driver accused of hitting a car driven by actor Bernie Koppell.

The driver was identified as Jose Meraz Guillen, 28, of Madera, California Highway Patrol Officer Dan Fandrich said Saturday. Guillen was being held at Riverside County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail on seven charges including drunken driving, reckless driving and hit-and-run driving. Monday, four Wisconsin Rapids males ranging from 15-16 years old were arrested after they were discovered joy riding in a car missing from Brostrom-Kickert Chevrolet 2660 8th St. S. The four will be referred to the Department of Social Services for party to the crime of auto theft, and three of the boys also will be issued citations for driving without a license, said city police Inspector Jere Gardner. None of them were licensed drivers, he said. Gardner said the boys had taken the car Saturday after the keys had been mistakenly left inside the vehicle.

They stored the vehicle overnight behind a local restaurant and took it back out for a ride Sunday night, when they were apprehended, he said. The teens reportedly intended to take the vehicle back to the car dealership, said Gardner. At 2:31 a.m. today, Tim Walloch, 450 11th Ave. reported the theft of two stereo speakers from his vehicle while parked in a parking lot in the 200 block of W.

Grand Avenue. Traffic accidents WISCONSIN RAPIDS At 7:44 a.m. Monday, a two-vehicle accident occurred on 2nd Avenue near Woodbine Street. Drivers are listed as Scott Nelson, 20, 2285 County Trunk Nekoosa, and James Traynor, 35, Stevens Point. A passenger in the Traynor vehicle, Joan Hanson, 40, Stevens Point, was transported to River-view Hospital with injuries and treated and released.

Divorces WOOD COUNTY The following people were divorced: Gary Borowiak, 39, address unknown, and Diane Borowiak, 35, 5928 3rd Rudolph; married Oct. 10, 1986. The court restored her surname to Hoppa. John Helgerson, 25, Marsh-field, and Darcy Helgerson, 24, Marshfield, married May 26, 1984. The court restored her surname to Tinkey.

Russell Hamus, 26, Marshfield, and Diane Hamus, 25, Spencer, married July 9, 1983. The court restored her surname to Cliver. Earl Kegley, 37, 1430 2nd Ave. Wisconsin Rapids, and Dianna Kegley, 29, 624 1st Nekoosa, married May 31, 1980. They were awarded joint custody of their two minor children.

'Different Strokes' star will face trial LOS ANGELES AP) Actor Todd Bridges must face trial on a charge of attempted murder in the shooting of a convicted drug dealer at a cocaine hangout, a judge has ruled. Municipal Judge David Hor-witz also declined to reduce the $2 million bail for the former "Diff 'rent Strokes" star, despite a defense lawyer's plea that Bridges should be freed from jail so he can make commercials warning young people about drugs. "The defendant is held to answer," the judge declared Monday after a hearing in which people testified the 23-year-old actor was high on cocaine for weeks before the shooting. "The bail will stand." He was employed by the Chicago Northwestern Railroad and moved back to Adams in 1962, retiring in 1979 as an engineer. of Madison, the Adams Masonic Lodge No. 332, Heart of Wisconsin Shrine Club in Wisconsin Rapids, the Adams American Legion Post No. 250, was past secretary treasurer for the Chicago Northwestern Veterans Association, and a past member of the Adams Volunteer Fire Department. He also was an avid golfer and a member of the Mound View Golf Course, Friendship. He was employed as a bus driver for the AdamsFriendship School system.

Survivors include his wife; a son, John Edwin Orlando, a sister, Analoyce Clapp, Fort Myers, and one grandson. Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. Thursday. A Masonic service will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

Josephine Scifo ARKDALE Josephine Marie Scifo, 75, died Monday, March 20, 1989, at Adams County Memorial Hospital, Friendship, following a short illness. Services will be Monday, March 27, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Milwaukee. Burial will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery, Milwaukee. Mrs. Scifo was born July 6, 1913, in Milwaukee to Benedict and Carmella Jendusa.

She married Peter Joseph Scifo Oct. 28, 1938, in Milwaukee. They moved to Big Flats in 1976. She was a member of the Big Flats Auxiliary Fire Department and the Salvation Army. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Peter town of Norway, and Salvatore, Hales Corners; two daughters, Rosemary Jorgenson, Franksville, and Car-mille Walter, New Berlin; two brothers, Thomas Jendusa and James Jendusa, both of Milwaukee; two sisters, Pauline Ermi and Rosie Gagnon, both of Milwaukee; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at Roseberry's Funeral Home, Friendship, after 4 p.m. Wednesday. A rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday by the Rev. Angelo Comoretto at the funeral home.

Lillian Mollen PORT EDWARDS Lillian Mollen, 66, 221 Alexander died at 11:40 p.m. Sunday, March 19, 1989, at St. Joseph's Hospital Hospice Center, Marshfield. where she had been a patient since Jan. 17.

Memorial services will be at a later date. The body will be cremated. Mrs. Mollen was born March 14, 1923, in Nekoosa to Edmund and Elizabeth Schaffenberger. She married Raymond Mollen Sept.

8, 1947, in Shorewood. She was employed for 15 years as a secretary at Port Edwards Elementary School, retiring in June 1984. She was a member of St. Alexander's Women's Club. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Cynthia Berg, Stevens Point; two brothers, Edmund Schaffenberger, Wisconsin Rapids, and Walter Schaffenberger, Eau Claire; two sisters, Rose Zellmer, Wisconsin Rapids, and Myrtle Goodness, Springfield, and two grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her parents and one sister. There will be no visitation. Ritchay Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Memorials may be designated to the American Cancer Society. Emll H.

Saeger WIS. RAPIDS Emil H. Sae-ger, 84, 2120 4th St. died Monday morning, March 20, 1989, at Riverview Hospital. Services will be at 1 p.m.

Wednesday at Immanuel Lutheran joined seven battered wo- men in an appeal for action to curb domestic violence. "It's something people don't want to talk about," Goldberg said Monday. "The attitude is, if a man hits his Whoopi Goldberg wife, it's his wife. Well, we're here to say we're not anyone's property any more." Goldberg, in Charlotte to do her one-woman show "Living on the Edge of Chaos," appeared at a news conference sponsored by the N.C. Coalition Against Domestic Violence.

The news conference was called in the wake of a March 10 Church. The Kev. Robert Buck-man will officiate. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Saeger was born Feb.

2, 1905, in Port Edwards to Albert and Anna Saeger. He married Christine Hansen July 29, 1930, in the town of Saratoga. He was employed at Consol-diated Papers for 40 years, retiring in 1970 as an oiler. He was a musician in the area for many years. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Donald and Dale, both of Wisconsin Rapids; and two grandchildren.

He was predeceased by two brothers and a sister. Friends may call at the Taylor Funeral Home today from 5-9 p.m. and until II a.m. Wednesday, and at the church from noon-1 p.m. Wednesday.

Blanche Evanson RUDOLPH Blanche Evan-son, 66, 5522 Robin Road, town of Rudolph, died Friday, March 17, 1989, at the Methodist Hospital, Memphis, Tenn. Services were held Sunday at the Cyprus Corner Baptist Church, Sarah, Miss. Graveside services were at 2 p.m. today at Forest Hill Cemetery, Wisconsin Rapids. Mrs.

Evanson was born Aug. 26, 1922, in Wisconsin Rapids to Bernard and Loretta Musch. She married Olaf Evanson Aug. 26, 1946, in Wisconsin Rapids. He died Oct.

31, 1969. Survivors include two daughters, Jean Holcomb, Sarah, and Jo Anne Thomas, Canby, three sons, Robert Schmidt, Columbus, Ohio, Edward Schmidt, Chicago, 111., and Thomas Evanson, Rudolph; two sisters, Marge Merck, Stevens Point, and Margaret Villeneuve, Wisconsin Rapids; four brothers, George Musch, Nekoosa, John Musch, Green Bay, Francis Musch, Wisconsin Rapids, and Jim Musch, Washington state; 14 grandchildren; and 10 greatgrandchildren. Taylor Funeral Home handled local arrangements. Ella Llchte GREENWOOD Ella Lichte, 72, town of Beaver, mother of Bertha Bowdion, Vesper, was pronounced dead on arrival at 12:50 p.m. Friday, March 17, 1989, at St.

Joseph's Hospital Emergency Room, Marshfield. Services were today at Missionary Baptist Church, Greenwood. The Revs. Walter Hamelink and Charles Saletri officiated. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery.

Mrs. Lichte was born April 11, 1916, in the town of Pine Valley, rural Neillsville, to William and Louise Tischer. She married Ger-hardt Lichte Sept. 8, 1936, in Neillsville. He died Dec.

17, 1987. Survivors also include a son, Allen, Greenwood; one other daughter, Margaret Hillert, Greenwood; two sisters, Laura Copeland, Rewey, and Lydia Sie-barth, Nora, 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Christine Krueger RUDOLPH Christine Krueger, 86, formerly of 1591 2nd St. Rudolph, died Monday, March 20, 1989, at the Edgewater Haven Nursing Home, Port Edwards. Services will be at 11 a.m.

Hafferman was born in the town of Seneca Dec. 20, 1896, to August and Wilhelmine Stake. She married William T. Hafferman Oct. 27, 1915, in the town of Seneca.

He died March 17, 1970. She was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church. Survivors include three sons, Roy, Green Bay, Glenn, Wiscon-. sin Rapids, and William, Nekoosa; a sister, Helen Goss, Wisconsin Rapids; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Obey says handicapped boy should keep dog MARSHFIELD (AP) The government is taking a silly stand by insisting that a handicapped boy give up his pet dog in order for his family to stay in subsidized housing, a congressman says.

U.S. Rep. David Obey, intervened on behalf of 5-year-old Joey Seiser of Marshfield, who has cerebral palsy and was given the miniature dachshund, named Hercules, as a gift a year and a half ago. "The family has been told that! the regulations allow fish or-birds," Obey said Monday in a letter to Housing and Urban Development Secretary Jack Kemp." HUD regulations allow the elderly or a handicapped head of household to have a pet dog. Obey said HUD should change the rules to allow for pet dogs of handicapped children.
