REGIONAL Stampede's Vanek named all-USHL Stampede forward Thomas Vanek, who set franchise records for goals and points in 2001-02, was named first-team all-USHL in postseason awards announced Tuesday by the league. Vanek, an 18-year-old native of Austria who will play at the University of Minnesota, led the USHL in scoring with 46 goals and 45 assists for 91 points while becoming the top career scorer in Sioux Falls history. He is joined on the first team by forwards Vince Bd-lissimo (Topeka) and Brad Zancanaro (Sioux City), defensemen Brett Skinner (Des Moines) and Danny Richmond (Chicago), and goalie Bobby Goepfert (Cedar Rapids). Stampede center Eric Przepiorka, who finished second in the USHL with 43 goals, was named to the all-USHL second team, while Marty Sertich received all-rookie team honors.

Also Tuesday, the USHL named the Stampede as its "Organization of the Year" for a season that saw Sioux Falls draw a total of 132,903 fans (fourth in the league) and host a successful Ail-Star Game in February. For its own postseason awards, the Stampede honored Quinn Fylling (most valuable), Vanek (outstanding offensive player), Rico Fatticci (outstanding defensive player), Eric Przepiorka (Three Stars Jesse Stokke (most determined), Alex Foster (most improved) and Jason Moul (community service). Canaries exhibition games set The Canaries will play seven games prior to the start of the regular season. Camp opens May 10, with a game against the Lincoln Saltdogs in Croften, on May 11. Cadillac Invitational June 17 The Cadillac Invitational Golf Tournament, which benefits the National Kidney Foundation of South Dakota, will be held Monday, June 17 at Prairie Green Golf Course in Sioux Falls. Every player in the tournament foursome must have a USGA handicap to play.

The event is a 4-per-son scramble, with each competing team consisting of four amateur golfers whose USGA handicap indexes total 43.0 or more, with only one golfer 8.0 or less. Any player not having a handicap needs to complete the process before June 4 or will be ineligible for national prizes, including invitation to Pebble Beach.
