5, 2002, at Riverview Manor Nursing Home. He was born February 10, 1911, at Flandreau, SD, to Joseph and Amelia (LaFavre) Billam. He graduated from Flandreau High School in 1928. He worked in the pipeline industry in many states in our country and also in Iraq, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Canada, and Lebanon. John enlisted in the U.S.

Army on October 21, 1940, and served with the Ist Field Artillery 2nd Infantry in the Pacific Theatre. After his discharge on November 25, 1945, he moved to Tulsa, OK, and continued working for the pipeline industry. John married Virginia Buel on October 29, 1966, at Warrenton, VA. They lived in Tulsa until 1995 when they moved to Flandreau. John became a resident at Riverview Manor Nursing Home in 1999.

He was a member of Operating Engineers 101 and American Legion Post He is survived by his wife, Virginia; 2 brothers, Dale and George, both of Flandreau; I sister, Beverly Glasgow, Billings, MT; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 5 sisters, and I brother. Mass of Christian Burial will be Sept. 9, 2002, at 10:30 AM at ST. Simon and Jude Catholic Church, Flandreau, with burial in ST.

Simon and Jude Cemetery. Visitation begins at 2 PM Sunday at Skroch Funeral Chapel. Donald G. Button Vermillion Donald G. Button, 72, of Vermillion, died Sept.

5, 2002, Sioux Valley Vermillion Hospital. Arrangements by Iverson-Siecke Funeral Home. Virginia (Ducky) L. Jewell Sioux Falls Virginia L. Jewell, 70, died Sept.

5, 2002 at Avera McKennan Hospital after a lengthy illness with cancer. Virginia L. Jewell was born Oct. 23, 1931 in Sioux Falls to John and Minnie Walkins. She graduated from Washington High School in 1949 and graduated from Nettleton Community College on Jan.

2, 1954. She was united in marriage to Donald S. Jewell on Jan. 2, 1956 and they made their home in Sioux Falls. She worked for US West for 38 years, and drove school bus for 9 years part time.

Virginia was a member of the Women of the Moose and also a telephone pioneer. She bowling, needlepoint, computers; she also was an All State Catcher in fast pitch softball, batting over .400. She also enjoyed time with her grandkids and great grandson. Survivors include her husband, Don; sister, Jean (Bob), Schubert, CA; brother, John (Jack) Walkins, TX; sons, Bart (Cindy), CO, John (Karen), CO; daughters, Lisa (Scott) Bass, Sioux Falls, Lori Jewell, Sioux Falls; 7 grandchildren, Chad (Lori) and great grandson, Anthony, Shawna, Jerrod, Joshua, Lucas, Austin Pibal, Dallas Bass, her canine dogs, Susie and Spunky. In addition to her parents, John and Minnie Walkins Virginia was preceded in death by many nieces and nephews and very many special friends.

Funeral services will be 2 PM Monday at Miller Funeral Home 13th Main Location. Visitation will begin at 10 AM Saturday with the family present on Sunday from 4 to 6 PM to greet friends and a Women of the Moose Service at 6 PM Sunday at Miller Funeral Home. Bernetta L. 6 at Palisade Manor Nursing Home, Garretson, SD. Ed Hanssen, son of John M. and Trientje (Groothoff) Hanssen, was born May 5, 1904 in Creighton, NE. At age 6 he moved with his family to a farm south of Emery, SD. Ed married Elsie Nora Kallweit in Madison, NE on Oct.

3, 1929. The couple farmed near Alexandria, SD for 40 years before retiring in 1969. They moved from the farm to Sioux Falls in 1977. The couple was married 71 years before Elsie preceded him in death on July 8, 2001. Ed enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He also liked to play his accordion and mouth harp. Survivors include his son, Ervin (Lois) Hanssen, Sioux Falls; 4 grandchildren, Dr. Arlen (Mary) Hanssen, Rochester, MN, Kelvin Hanssen, Kim Hanssen and Keith Hanssen, all of Sioux Falls; 6 great-grandchildren, Kelvin Jon Hanssen, Deland, FL, Shelby and Gabrielle Hanssen, both of Rochester, MN, Tayler, Keiana and Kenzee Hanssen, all of Sioux Falls, SD; and one sister, Lydia Fauth, Canistota, SD. Shirley May Lund Brown Winner Shirley May Lund Brown, age 77, of Winner, South Dakota, died on Wednesday, September 4, 2002 at the Winner Regional Healthcare Center. She is survived by nieces and nephews including, Orville (Joyce) Lund; Carol (Dennis) Miller: Emmett (Pat) Fluent; Don (Betty) Fluent; Stewart (Barb) Fluent and Donna Brown as well as many great nieces and nephews.

"Bob" Kirschman Sioux Falls Robert D. "Bob" Kirschman, 71, died Friday, September 6, 2002 at Avera McKennan Hospital.

He was a lifelong resident of Sioux Falls where he was a Letter Carrier and NALC member for 31 years. He married Rita Schumann on October 13, 1952. Survivors include his wife, Rita; sons: Patrick, Michael (Dawn); daughters: Jean Thoreson (Keith), Sharil Kirschman-Rollag (Lyle), Sheila Ellingson (Roger), Lynn Schreurs (Joel); and nine grandchildren. Arthur E. Dracy Brookings Arthur E. Dracy, age 85, of Brookings, died Wednesday at Brookview Manor in Brookings.

A date for his memorial service will be announced later by Eidsness Funeral Home. Dr. Dracy was born May 12, 1917, at Virgil, South Dakota. On September 4, 1943, he married Irene M. Haley.

He was a professor in the SDSU Dairy Science Dept. from 1948 until 1965 and the Engineering Dept. from 1967 until 1979. He and his wife owned and operated Western Estates. Survivors include his daughter, Susan Dracy-Nerland and her husband Chris of Brookings; a grandson, Lance Nerland; and a brother.
