Benjamin J. Faitella, 53, of October Lane, Plantsville, formerly, a Plainville resident, died Tuesday (May 26, 1992) at New Britain General Hospital. He was born in Britain Nov. 14, 1938, the son of Lena (Starke) Faitella of Palm City, and the late Joseph G. Faitella.

Clarence Redd, 70, of Hartford, departed this life Wednesday (May 27) in Mount Sinai Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Clara E. High East Haven, wife of Frank R. Tipping, died Thursday (May 28) at her home, after a long illness. Mrs. Tipping was born in Ansonia, daughter of the late Robert and Marry (Burleigh) Niglio Gilbert. She was a resident of East Haven for 48 years, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Prince Chapter, and a member of the Christ and Epiphany Church.

Besides her husband, she leaves three sons, Gilbert Digby West Hartford, William Digby of Branford, and Russell Tipping of Chesapeake, a daughter, Linda Tipping of Manchester; 13 grandchildren; and eight children. Obituary Tony Accardo; reputedly led Chicago mob Associated Press CHICAGO Tony "Joe Batters" Accardo, reputedly the longtime head of the Chicago mob and a former associate of gangster Al Capone, died Wednesday night. He was 86. Accardo died as a result of heart and lung diseases, said Carrie Quidayan, night nursing coordinator at St.

Mary of Nazareth Hospital Center. Accardo was arrested many times on allegations ranging from murder to extortion and kidnapping. But he was adept at avoiding criminal prosecution and boasted he never spent a night in jail. In testimony before Congress in 1984, Accardo acknowledged he had long been friendly with a number of organized-crime figures in Chicago. But he said he had "never been a boss." But Robert R.

Fuesel, executive director of the Chicago Crime Commission, a private watchdog group, said: "He was the chairman of the mob." Accardo was given the nickname "Big Tuna" by a Chicago newspaper reporter after having his picture taken with a 400-pound tuna he caught off Florida. But Accardo was known by his colleagues as "Joe Batters," apparently out of respect for his skills with a baseball bat. William Roemer, a retired FBI agent who tracked Accardo's career for years, said recently he could never charge Accardo, but believed he was one of the triggermen in the St. Valentine's Day massacre in 1929 Chicago. Shortly after the shooting, Accardo was seen in the lobby of Capone's headquarters, the Lexington Hotel on Michigan Avenue, with a machine gun.

Accardo, the son of a shoemaker, was born Antonio Leonardo Accardo in 1906 in Chicago's Little Italy. He dropped out of school in the sixth grade and was arrested for the first time at age 15. Accardo said he first met Capone at a race track, but denied longstanding stories that he once was Capone's chauffeur-bodyguard or that he had inherited his criminal empire. In 1931, shortly after Capone was jailed for income-tax evasion, Accardo reputedly was given control of the Capone family's gambling operations in Florida and Chicago. Accardo took over as mob chief when Ricca retired in 1968, although he deferred to Ricca until he died in 1972.

CONNELL. Cornelius "Bucky" Connell, 88, of 687 Main Somers, died Thursday (May 28) at Johnson Memorial Hospital. He was born in Somerville, Nov. 29, 1903 and was lifetime resident of the community. He was employed as an assistant dyer for the former Somerville Mfg.

and upon his retirement, he was employed at Baystate Films in Agawam, Mass. Bucky was a 60-year member of Doric Lodge A.F. A.M., Church, Somers Congregational A.A.R.P., gardener and thoughtful provider. He is survived by his wife, Rebecca "Becky" G. Connell; his daughter, Jean and son-in-law Roger Carmichael of Broad Brook; two sons, Neil G.

HEATH. Richard J. Heath, 71, of West Hartford, husband of Eleanor (Wall) Heath, died Thursday (May 28) at his home, after a long illness. Born in Hartford, he had lived in West Hartford for most of his life. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by the Aetna Life and Casualty Co.

He was also policeman for the Town of West Hartford after serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a past State Commander of the American Legion, and was a life member of Post 96. Besides his wife of 49 years, he is survived by two sons, R. Brad of Portland, and Steven J.

Heath West Hartford; two daughters, Geraldine P. Heath of West Hartford, and Laura R. Mara of Woodbridge, two sisters, Beverly Heath of West Hartford, and Sister Albertine of the Sisters of St. Joseph, Rochester, N. and six grandchildren.

Albina (Beloin) Hinchliff, 91, of 83 Chestnut widow of Thomas Hinchliff, died Thursday (May 28, 1992) at Bristol Hospital. Born in Bristol, Aug. 4, 1900, she was a daughter of the late Moise Alphonsine (Fournier) Beloin and a lifelong resident.

She worked alongside her son at Hinchliff Studios for over 35 years. She was a member of St. Ann Church and the Ladies of St. Ann Society. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Marion Hinchliff, a son, Robert Hinchliff, all of Bristol; a granddaughter, Margaret Hinchlift of Farmington; and several nieces and nephews.

Johnson, succumbed to cancer Wednesday (May 27, 1992) after a long, courageous battle. She was born Jan. 7, 1911, in Danville, daughter of the late Payton and Mattie Perkins. She had lived in Massachusetts and Connecticut for the past 50 years. She was a member of the Union Baptist Church, Hartford, a member of the Dorcas Missionary Society, and a member of the Union Baptist Craft Club.

KING. Everett Hastings King, 92, of North Miami, formerly of Halladay Suffield, husband of the late Dorothy (Burnham) King, died Wednesday (May 20, 1992) at North Shore Hospital, Miami, Fla. Born in Suffield, he operated the King Family Tobacco Farm, which had been in operation since 1774, until his retirement in 1951. He had been a resident of Florida for past 30 years. Prior to her retirement, she was employed in the accounting department of the AAA Automobile Club in West Hartford. Besides her husband, she is survived by her son, Carl L.
