Campbell said grass should be planted on the Northwest Side course by mid-July. And the first 18 holes should be playable by next December.

CD Pipeline of Tucson is now rough-grading the site and the irrigation system should be installed by mid- May, Campbell says. Campbell says one minor problem was encountered during grading of the southeast comer of the course, an area formerly used as a city landfill. But course designers and planners have solved the problem by adding a three-foot plate of earth over the landfill area, Campbell says. The -additional earth will not affect the payability of the course, he added. The city eventually plans to develop two 18-hole golf courses and a regional park on the 645-acre site located at the Southeast corner of N.

Silverbell Road and W. Sweetwater Drive, west of Interstate 10. City officials estimate that construction of the first lg holes of the Silverbell course will cost between $750,000 and $800,000. Design of the facility will cost another $20,000. Funding will come from city bonds approved by voters in 1973.

The course was designed by Arthur "Jack" Snyder, an Arizona golf course architect who has designed 20 Arizona courses, including the south nine holes of Green Valley's course. The course will be watered with about one million gallons per day of treated sewage water from the city's sewage treatment plant located near the golf course.
