The perennial Eastern Conference champion finished just one point ahead of Huskies in annexing its second straight title. Host Valley finished an unofficial third. In division I singles finals, East L.A.'s Poirier handed favored Eric Joachim of Fullerton his first defeat of the season in -winning, 7-5, 6-0.

NBC does the honors through its local outlet, Channel 4. The basic ground rules are the same as last, year: There will be a primary game and a back-up game each week. game will be blacked out in the areas of two teams playing. The back-up game will screen in the areas of the two playing the primary game. It also will serve as a 'raincheck" game for the national telecast.

If primary game Is rained out, back-up will hs screened in all ai-win' but those of the two involved in the backup game. They would get to see an early "talkie" if the primary game is rained out. The first week will spotlight the world champion St. Louis Cardinals vs. Leo Durocher and his Chicago Cubs.

Next week, the network moves over to the American League pennant club, Boston Red Sox, playing host to the Cleveland Indians. For a week or two, the tube will stay, with the teams involved in last year's fantastic American League pennant race-(Boston, Detroit, Minnesota and Chicago). After that, the network will attempt to cover that game which is of the greatest interest to the public or the pennant race. By way of conjecture, however, yott might well expect to see quite a bit of National League action early in he season so the network will be in position to blanket the anticipated nose-to-nose pennant run down the American Lesgie stretch. The California Angels, mentioned prominently as contenders, also tap the tube this week end as Channel 5 cameras bring the game back from Baltimore Sunday.

This is the first of 24 regular-season Angels road games to be televised by. KTLA, involving all nine American League parks. Channel 11 again w-yi tube the nine San Francisco games of the Los Angeles Dodgers, beginning late this month. All baseball telecasts on Channels 4, 5 and 11 will be live and in color. And the announcers are the same as last year: Bud Blattner, Don Wells for the Angels; Vm Doggett for the Dodgers; Jim Simpson, Tony Kubek for the NBC back-up game.
