block Ififl side a a i 51 i borne to To The News. In your issue of Sept. 10 I note in a i of a meeting of the Optimists' Club some criticism of The News and of Houston papers for i i "stories" of a storm on Labor Day i It seems proper for the weather bureau to come forward and shoulder the responsibility for these stories, since The Galveston News Is in no way at fault. On Sunday evening, Sept. 6, reports from stations on the South Texas coast showed the presence of a storm of considerable energy some distance southeast of Brownsville.

Storm warnings were issued frbrn New Orleans. the i i forecast to Corpus i and Rockport southward and other stations on the Texas coast were advised. This storm had either developed there or had moved i that position with slight energy and developed in a comparatively few to a storm whose presence was ifing along the whole Texas coast. This Is a very dangerous po- Ition. It would be possible for a in that position to reach the N'crth Texas coast in 1 hours.

A case of this occurred in 1921. A storm was i sighted off i on the evening of 21 and in the early afternoon of 22 the highest i occurred at Galveston. the center passing Houston at 6 p. in. of that date.

In present case the ttorm was sighted on the evening before Labor Day. Now we have at the weather a here a list of merchants and shippers who are exceedingly anxious that we advise them of the approach of such a storm. Since few of these people would be in i offices on Labor Day. many of them going out nf tne I a or out on the water i i it i A rear-h I ONE IS KILLED AND ANOTHER WOUNDED IN WEDNESDAY NIGHT'S RIOT.
