Complimentary shuttle service available. 739 N. Clark 312-266-6691. pvetteltribune.com The annual release of Beaujolais nouveau, the light and fruity red made from the gamay grape, is a triumph of marketing and tradition. The wine itself, young, fresh and easy to drink, is no big deal (though it pairs nicely with roast turkey), but because French law decrees that the third Thursday in November is the earliest permissible release date, the day is celebrated with parties, special menus and festive cries of "Le Beaujolais nouveau est arrive!" It's all rather silly, but given the sacramental gravitas we so often accord to what is, after all, bottles of fermented grape squeezin's, a little levity now and again is probably a good idea.

If you want in on the action, here are a few events taking place: Bistronomic. Serving a three-course, $39 dinner Thursday of country pate, beef bourguignon and banana brioche pudding, accompanied by a glass of Beaujolais nouveau. Regular menu also available. 840 N. Wabash 312-944-8400.
