IBS NiT7S correspondent has interviewed a nnmber of the men who bavo ceased to wort to obtain from them the cause of the strike, and they say that about a year ago the Santi Fe company cut salaries down 15 to 35 per cent ana promised to restore salaries in sixty ond not 'more than ninety days, which Che company, have failed to do. The resolutions were called forth by the formal announcement that the Gould railway system will give planters a rate of 1 cent per mile on parties of Mexicans num- teting five or more, traveling from Laredo to an5 point on its lines. The Knights of Labor protest against tbe attempt on the part of a monopoly to flo id the Stale with civilized and degraded labor, setting forth that there are thousands of un- pmnloyed men In this State who could easily, be utilized, -If it Is necessary, to save abundant and that the monopolists' aim is to provide cheap foreign labor to take the place of intelligent labor whenever this monopoly may see fib to do so. All fellow-knights are called upon to discourage and discountenance, in every way practicable, any steps looking toward -this wholesale importation, of a class to which tbe Chinese are every way superior. Seablossom and twenty-one of the crew of the American brig Isabella, which was lost in the Ice In Hudson straits. The Isabella sailed from New Bedford on May 27, ISSi, and entered the ice pack on July 11. She waB crushed In the Ice on the 20th of the same month, twenty miles north of North bluff. All of the crew, twenty-three in number, and a stowaway, were eaved. They wandered about oa thff ice for four days, suffering intensely from the cold.

They finally reached a settlement called Aca- lier and remained there until September 9, when the whaler Eira arrived off the place, and they were taken on board and kindly- cared for, but owing to the scarcity of food on the Eira both crewa had to be put an short; allowance. While on board tha Eira one of the Isabella's crew, a Swede named Francis Pemro, died of curvy. Tne rest of the are all in good health. Sailed for Galveaton.
