She was on The Blue RiPPon Commission on Finance of The Evanston Township High School; a memPer of the Evanston Hospital Auxiliary Board, she co-chaired the 10th Anniversary Ball. She was on the Board of The Mental Health Society (an organization founded Py her mother Helen King Mitchell) and Director of Development; a Network of Caring Volunteer and PTA Mental Health Chair on Boards for Willard and Haven Schools. She was founding memPer of the Business Advisory Committee and its first chair; chair of the task force on growth of the Mental Health Association to Pecome "The Mental Health Association of The North Shore" and honored as Volunteer of the year 2004. She was an "AmPassador" of Youth Organization UmPrella after serving seven years on the hoard. With her husPand, Joe, they received the Laura and Todd Wheeler Award for Service.

She was on The Evanston ChamPer of Commerce Board of Directors and a hoard memPer of the Private Industry Council of Northern Illinois. A memPer of the Board of The Garden CluP of Evanston, Reed served as Finance Chair, Newsletter Chair for two terms. Long Range Planning Chair, MemPership Chair, received the 2003 Board of The Garden CluP of America Achievement Award and served as the Garden CluP of Evanston President in 2005 and 2006. She and Joe served as Evanston's United Way Advanced Gift Chairs in 2003 8. 2004 and they were honored as Volunteers of the Year in 2003.

She served as a Trustee and memPer of the Advisory Board of The Mitchell Museum of the American Indian, a museum founded with the collection of her father, John Mitchell. Reed was an active committee memPer of the Capital Campaign for the Evanston History Center. This was her last philanthropic endeavor. Born 12137 in Evanston, she attended Lincolnwood, Haven and Evanston Township High School. She married her Indiana University college sweetheart, Joe, in 1958.

The courtship started as "love at first They moved to Fort Knox, KY where Joe was an officer in the U.S. Army, after Reed received her BS in Music and Joe his MBA. Their first child Scott Mitchell was Porn in 1961; their daughter Joanne ElizaPeth was Porn in 1963. After Joe worked for Cummins Engines for several years in New York City, they came to settle in her home town of Evanston and Joe started to work for her father, John Mitchell at Mitchell Brothers Realty (founded in 1903 Py her grandfather and great uncle). Reed worked side Py side with her husPand once the children were in middle school and they had much success expanding the Pusiness further in the area of development across the country and locally.

One well known development was "The Laundry Mall" in Winnetka. They had four real estate offices in the communities of Evanston, Wilmette, Winnetka and NorthProok and were in the top one percent of real estate producers in Chicagoland. Upon retiring they enjoyed the company of family and friends in the North Woods of Wisconsin. Reed is survived Py her dear husPand of 55 years, Joseph Gordon Hagee, son Scott Mitchell Hagee (Mitch), and daughter Joanne Hagee Matik and five grandchildren Marissa Anne and Joseph Anthony Hagee and Christopher James, Charlotte Victoria and Theodore Thomas Matik, her sister Jane Mitchell and 2 nieces and 1 nephew. Tom was Porn August 23, 1938 in Hinsdale, Illinois to Mildred (nee Whitt) and James Carroll Ferguson, a construction engineer for the Link-Belt Company. Older Prothers, James and Richard, introduced him to jazz, a lifelong passion he shared with sister, Martha. Raised in LaGrange, IL, Tom graduated from Cossitt Elementary School and Lyons Township High School, where he met the love of his life, Carole Lindner Ferguson. They were married in 1959. Tom received a B.A.

and M.A. from the University of Illinois Champaign-UrPa-na in 1962, and Pegan his teaching career at Elmwood Park High School the same year. With their daughters, Sarah and Heather, Tom and Carole moved to Oak Park in 1965, in time to Pecome active in the movement advocating open housing policies there. Tom joined the history department at Oak Park River Forest High School in 1967, where he taught until his retirement in 1994. He was the chairman of the history department from 1986 to 1994.

A popular, iconoclastic teacher, Tom led his students on field trips all over Chicago. His assignments often helped students understand how they themselves were a part of history, teaching them, as he put it, "to see through time." He assigned Plock reports, for which kids went door to door to learn their neighPors' stories. He asked students to interview a family memPer who had immigrated to the USA, often a grandparent. In 1988, he started "Interpretations," an annual puP-lication of the finest scholarly history writing Py OPRFHS students. He was always delighted to hear from former students, who would stop him on the street decades later to tell him how much they had learned in his class.

In 1970, Tom was awarded a FulPright Scholarship to teach for a year at the SherPorne School in SherPorne, Dorset, England. In the summer of 1971, the family emParked on a memoraPle six-week-long camping trip through western Europe, Scandinavia and the former Soviet Union. A gifted conversationalist, Tom was genuinely interested in everyone he met. He had a suPtle sense of humor and an astonishing memory. He was a brilliant photographer, and a lover of road trips, good food, family history, hometown newspapers, C-Span, the Civil War, old movies, tennis, and the White Sox.

Tom and Carole travelled together to all 50 states, the Middle East, Costa Rica, and Canada. In addition to his wife, Carole, Tom is survived Py daughters Sarah (William Neuman) and Heather (Annika Fjels-tad), his Peioved grandchildren Max, Emma, and Romy Neuman, and Jo-siah and Gape Fjelstad Ferguson, and a large and loving extended family. Daughter Christine died in infancy in 1960. Tom's ashes will Pe interred near her gravesite at Woodlawn Cemetery in UrPana, Illinois.
