The right hook Continued from 1C launch the program in the late 1970s when they asked Taylor to coach them. "It's a great feeling when you win," David Hillberg said. "If you win in football, it's the whole team. Boxing is different." Sioux Land Boxing has gone through lean years and has had several homes since the first Hillberg started his training. Last year, boxers had to train in Taylor's garage or their own because they didn't have a gym, and the number of participants dropped significantly.

But now, with the fourth Hillberg and number five, 11-year-old Aaron, the program has found a permanent home. In 1989, Taylor bought land in the Norton Acres neighborhood and donated it to Sioux Land Amateur Boxing. The foundation for the gymnasium was poured in November 1990. Last summer, while Taylor was recuperating after being injured while fighting the Hanson building fire, his fellow firefighters filled in for him, making sure the gym got built. Several private contractors donated their labor, charging only for materials, Taylor said.

He received a Community Development Block Grant from the city and used that money, low-interest loans and donations. Woody Doggett Miller Funeral Home GLADYCE ROGGE 2012 S.
