Corcoran has seen a good many changes in the martial arts field since he entered the business 17 years ago. He had a background as a black belt competitor but no formal college or journalism experience when he talked his way into an interview with Black Belt Magazine in 1972.

"I couldn't even type," he said with a smile. "But from by training in martial arts, I had no fear of failure. Within a few months I was editing how-to books, and my career just took off from there." Corcoran has written three books on martial arts, including Martial Arts: Tradition, History, People. Walters said he used the book as a textbook for six years while teaching 054.000 145,700 752,290 453,552 441.150 444,940 445,045 417,730 criminal justice classes at College of Great Falls. The state tournament begins at 10 Saturday morning and runs until about 6 p.m.

Walters expects more than 200 competitors largest turnout ever for a state tournament. The event is sanctioned by the North American Sport Karate Association and spectators are welcome. A small fee will be charged for watching, with proceeds going to the CGF Karate Club (one-third) and two cancer patients (two-thirds). Walters said the tournament has always given a portion of the profits to a charity. There will be grand champions named for sparring, forms and overall tournament winner.

The sparring champion will earn a trophy, $100 and a used car. 1901 The first night gome In WrhT-ley Fields 74-yeor history was postponed with the Chicogo Cubs leoding the Philadelphia Phillies 3-1 after heavy rains erupted in the bottom of the fourth inning.
