m. Mm! a. m. Every organization must have some form of govern- ment in order to be successful. The church is no different.

God has given the organization and form of government that He expects His church to operate under. ORGANIZATION OF THE CHURCH: Every organization must have a head. Christ is the head of the church. Ephesians There is only one church recognized in the New Testament and it belongs to Christ. It is the one that Christ is head of.

Ephesians 4:4. Christ has not elevated any man to the position as head over his church. He has retained that position for himself. He is reigning as king over his kingdom. Daniel Acts 1 Corinthians Since Christ is reigning over his kingdom from heaven, it follows that there is no earthly headquarters for his church.

THE GOVERNMENT OF THE CHURCH: The government of the church is local. There is no organization larger than the local congregation. Christ has' delegated certain power'to men in the local congregation who possess certain qualifications. 1 Timothy Titus Their power does not extend beyond the congregation of which they are a member. Acts 1 Peter 5:2.

The highest office in the church is designated by ten dif- ferent names; but the one most commonly used is The various names by which they are called describe their qualifications and work. The elders are to be men of age and experience, hence "ciders" or they are to tend the flock and feed it, hence are called "shepherds" or they are to be supervisors or superintendents of the work of the church, hence its "bishops" or they are to exercise authority, when necessary, hence its They are under-shepherds of Christ the chief shepherd and in charge of his children, hence they are "stewards" accountable to God for the flock; they are to go before hence "leaders" of the flock; and they are to be en- samples, hence a pattern or model for the flock to follow. The elders do not have the power to formulate new laws but to enforce the laws given by Christ in the New Testament. The second office is that of DEACON, which means "to minister," "to serve," "to attend," "to help," there- fore they are special servants to the elders. The deacons also must meet certain qualifications.

1 Tim. CONCLUSION: This is the organization of the church as given by the Lord. This is all the organization needed to accomplish the work of the church. Any religious body with more or less cannot be the church of our Lord. 1 Peter 4-11- 2 Timothy Rev.
