Fishing Out of Season Costly It doesn't pay to fish out of season especially if you get caught This was the sad experience of two Los Angeles trout fishermen who were hailed before Judge Eugene Therieau Wednesday morning Wesley Peck and Stewart II Macgillevary both paid a fine of $50 each when found guilty of fishing out of season in Andreas Canyon last Sunday afternoon Game Warden Blewett who filed the charges told the court that the two had been apprehended while Ble-wett and members of the Fish and Game Conservation Association of Palm Springs were stocking the stream with 400 pounds of fish where Peck and Macgillc-vary were fishing Worse of all the more than 30 trout the two had caught were confiscated Movies Movietone News to Film Events of I Ith Annual Circus RESORT 16 Pages $500 Per Fanfare of silvery notes from trumpets echoing back and forth across the valley will mark the ening of the services from the le of the hill just as the sun peeks above the horizon to the East at 5:43 a A DRAMATIC TOUCH to the observance will be followed 'as in years past with the release of a flight of white pigeons At this point the program announcer will make a few remarks and the worship will get under way For the second year the entire program from the side of the hill will be broadcast over the facilities of radio station KCMJ under the direction of Roland Vailc who will also announce the program THE COMMUNITY choir of eighty voices will be blended in singing under the direction of Holly Lash Viscl Two thousand souvenir programs will be distributed to those present Boy Scouts will be on hand to direct those attending across the green of the golf course Entrance may be gained on Amado road which will be opened in ample time to allow persons to reach the side of the hill where the services will take place Those who plan to be present are urged See SUNRISE SERVICES Page 8 Parade Trophies Awards on Display On display this week in the windows of the Palm Springs Drug and Import Company is an array of trophies and awards to be made to winners of the 11th Annual Desert Parade which will be staged at 10 am on Saturday April 12 down Palm Canyon drive Centerpiece in the silverware and awards will be the grand sweepstakes prize that will go to the best-in-parade on April 12 Last year the award was won by the Mexican colony of Palm Springs Year Single Copy Recreational Area Ward Seems Assured Haight Expected To Tell City Fathers Big Discount Assured The Desert Sun learned early this morning that Palm Springs may be more than partially successful in its attempt to acquire surplus declared Torney General Hospital This is the report expected to be made by Raymond Haight attorney retained by the city and the Community hospital when he returns from Washington DC early next week ALTHOUGH information obtained by The Desert Sun could not be confirmed early this morning Haight will tell the city fathers he has been successful in obtaining assurances that a substantial discount on the back forty acres of Torney for school and educational purposes will be granted and on part of the land and buildings of the 27 acres on which are now situated the old El Mirador hotel the swimming pool the building in which the Community hospital is now operating and some of the nearby cottages As for the hotel property itself what discount would be granted the city for the use of this building for purely administrative purposes is not known However it is expected that the city will enter its bid for this structure at the government's appraisal and hope that a substantial discount will be granted WHEN HAIGHT was called into the picture to aid the city in acquiring all or part of Torney General hospital its original application had been turned down by government officials When he went to Washington DC he is reported to have gone with determination to fight for the application but with little hope that he would be successful His report on his return to the Village will come as a gratifying accomplishment it is said It Snowed! the event at which genuine Mexican food will be served and the lilting music of Old Mexico played for Mexican and American dancing are on sale at the chamber of commerce Thunderbird Ranch and other spots about the Village PROCEEDS will go to the club to help defray expenses of participation in the circus parade Only a limited number of tickets will be sold to the event since only a set number of persons can be accommodated so persons planning on attending are asked to phone either to the ranch or the chamber of commerce and reserve tickets Real Mexican food will be a tasty delicacy for those attending the event Members of the Mexican fafnilies holding membership in the club will direst preparation of the food to be served OUTSTANDING musicians will play and sing during the meal and later the colorfully-garbed senoritas of Palm Springs will sing and dance American dances will complete the evening's program Persons attending the event are asked to come dressed either in Mexican or this afternoon the news that Mrs Cornelia White pioneer Villager has deeded the property located at Tahquitz drive and Indian road to the museum THE GIFT has been modestly appraised at more than $75000 in value Dr William Colburn president of the Museum first vice president Carl Lykken and second vice-president Earl Coffman all ardent supporters of the museum met at the home of Mrs White this morning where the deed to the property was formally presented by Mrs White Mrs White has been a resident of Palm Springs since 1912 She is on the advisory committee of the Desert Museum Plans call for the erection of a first wing of the museum later to be followed by other additions as finances become available Dr Colburn announced that at the director's meeting this afternoon the finance and building committees of the museum will immediately lay plans to obtain sufficient finances with which to start the first wing of the building Palm 11th Annual Desert Circus will be the subject for a color film movie to be photographed by Movietone News according to arrangements completed yesterday between the Palm Springs Chamber of Commerce and the Nationwide newsreel company Jack Kuhne of the New York office of the film company and a crew of technicians will spend Friday Saturday and Sunday April 11 12 and 13 here com pleting the filming of the color feature Included will be scenes of the Annual Circus Parade Rodeo and Air Circus It is also hoped that lighting may be bright enough to permit shooting of scenes in the Village Insanities Representatives of magazines newspapers and other pi will be here during the Circus period for news and photographic coverage Publicizing of the Circus over the nation-wide hookups of the NBC 'and CBS is assured next week through the medium of the Queen for a Day and Bride and Groom shows The Queen For Day next Thursday will be sent to Palm Springs for the last three days of the Circus being the guest of thte Palm Springs Pueblo On Saturday a Bride and Groom couple enjoying an outing at Stanley Highland Springs will be brought to Palm Springs to participate in the parade one other events Saturday They will ride in the entry of Tahquitz Vista and El Encanto which are also owned by Stanley Rosin Not Too Late For Entry in Pet Show More than fifty entries are registered so far for the children's Pet Show slated to take place at the Tennis Club Friday April 11 as a part of the 11th Annual Circus Those children of pre-school age possessing pets whose parents would like to see them entered in the show still have time to obtain Palm pioneer horseman and stables owner and major domo of the dcsert-to-mountains rides famous throughout the country will wear the badge of supreme authority conferred by the Supreme Kangaroo Court of the 11th annual desert circus it was announced today by Chairman Barney Hinkle AND CARRYING out his slightest whim in dragging the cringing money-toting victims See KANGAROO Page 8 Isenagle Memorial Fund Given to Scouts Construction of an addition to the Boy Scout hut on Sunny Dunes Road was virtually assured this week when Mrs Cecil Isenagle manager of the Tanner Motor Livery directed that $43620 contributed to a memorial fund for her late husband be turned over to the Rotary club for the Boy Scout project THE MONEY was contributed to a special Community Chest memorial fund in lieu of -flowers that would have been sent at the time of the funeral Mrs Isenagle had asked that flowers be omitted and the money be given to the Community Chest Officials of the latter organization set up the funds in a special memorial account and the disbursement of the funds was mode this week by Carl Lykken president and William Colburn treasurer of the Community Chest Officials of the Rotary club recently suggested that the me- Recount total to close to $1300 THE ROTARY CLUB heads have pointed out that use of the memorial fund would be a fitting expenditure since the Boy Scout movement was close to his heart He had served as an official of the Boy Scout council here for many yean If the addition to the Boy Scout hut can be constructed it will be marked as a memorial to Mr Isenagle according to Jacques Crommelin chairman of the Rotary club Scout committee.
