Neumann now has 41 receptions for the season, a USD record, and also has 87 for his career which ties him with Dwight Dumcombe. Bill Moats intercepted his fifth pass of the season for USD, a theft which killed a Bison drive at the Coyote 15 in the fourth, quarter. Tom Blumhardt had seven solo tackles and eight assists for the Coyotes and John Vogelbacker had six solos and six assists. Jerry Rosburg had seven solos and eight assists for the Bison as well as a fumble recovery, and Don Meyer had five solo tackles.

I 1 VERMILLION, S.D. (AP) -North Dakota State posted its third North Central Conference shutout Saturday and held on to the league lead with a 24-0 verdict over South Dakota. The Bison, now 54 in the NCC, turned two Coyote fumbles into a 10-0 lead midway through the second period on a Mike McTague 33-yard field goal and Steve Campbell's three-yard run. Freshman quarterback Campbell unloaded a 70-yard scoring bomb to Bill Nutton with two minutes left in the half and Paul Larson added a 35-yard touchdown run with 31 seconds left in the game for the Bison, 6-2 on the year. The loss dropped USD to 3-1-1 in the NCC and 3-4-1 over-all.

It was the first shutout against the Coyotes since 1971 and the first at home since NDS kept them scoreless 10 years ago. Two USD drives came up short inside the Bison 10 one early in the second half when Ray Blye was stopped for no gain on a fourth and three and again in the final period when a fourth-down pass was incomplete. NDS dominated the first half, rolling up 231 total yards to only '1 'If- S1' Junior Champs ..1 I Field. Petersen gained 70 of his 86 yards rushing on that drive that started on the Lynx eight yard line after a clipping penalty on the kickoff.

The Knight offense didn't show much wide-open play with the of two attempted flee flicker plays. Instead they lined up nose-to-nose and banged away at the Brandon-Valley defense. Weikert's desperation pitch came after UNI chose to take a safety and then punt to the SDSU 46 with under a minute left. The Jacks, who trailed 13-0 at half time, got the football back with about 25 seconds left in the game. Earlier the Jacks ran out of downs deep in Panther territory.

Three Weikert passes fell incomplete before the bomb to Mosiman. The loss was the first in four conference starts for the Panthers while the Jacks of John Gregory now stand 3-1-1 in the loop.
