I I Desert Sun PALM Friday, SPRINGS. February 4, CALIF. 1944 LA Sports Old Style Shoots to Be Renewed By Rifle Club Sunday Due to popular demand, the Palm Springs Coachella Valley Pistol and Rifle Club will again hold a series of Sunday "Old Style Shoots," beginning with this Sunday, February 6, in which the public is cordially invited to participate, according to President M. E. Cameron.

As in past years, fryers, ready for the pan, will be awarded lucky marksmen for 1st, 3rd, and 5th places to give all an equal chance to win and to encourage marksmanship. USE OLD RIFLES An interesting feature of these shoots will be the use of old time muzzle-loading rifles in competition with modern rifles. These rifles will be used by members who have revived them from the historical past and brought forth their accurate shooting reputation through many hours of experiment and practice. Sunday, these guns which once protected pioneers from the savages, furnished food -deer, buffalo, wild turkey--and played an all-important part in conquest of the west, will again be brought forth to prove that the stories of the deadly accuracy of these old guns is not all fiction and romance. RULES ANNOUNCED The shooting will be held at fifty yards with shooters firing one shot in each match for record.

Winners will be determined by the measurement of the center of bullet hole to center of their previously marked "Open Sights" only will prevail which will allow the use of any caliber rifle. A few guns and ammunition will be on hand for those who do not have their own. The range is located at the site of the old rock crusher, just a- round "Araby Point Bend," about four miles from Palm Springs on the highway to Cathedral City.
