Getting around Dania Here are the stops on the route of Dania's trolley service: Griffin Rd. Race-O-Rama, Jai-Alai among stops on free ride By DAMON ADAMS Staff Writer DANIA Some business owners in this city say Dania needs to be more of a place where tourists stop and shop, rather than cruise through without spending enough To that end, store owners, city officials and others are gassing up a free trolley that will escort visitors to local attractions Dania Beach, Dania Jai-Alai and Grand Prix Race-O-Rama, among others.

"We want Dania to be a desti-nation, not a place you go through," said City Commissioner Bill Hyde, who took a test run Tuesday on the trolley with city officials and business operators. The motorized trolley, with park benches as seats, is scheduled to start rolling through the city on Sept. 24. The Dania Trolley will be used on a three-month trial and run only on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Visitors and residents alike can take the ride and stop at hotels, restaurants, stores including the Broward County Humane Society. The route begins at the Fort Lauderdale Airport Hilton Hotel and winds its way through the central business section to the Race-O-Rama. Then the trolley repeats the loop. "We're trying to make it a way to spend the whole day in the city," said Kate Yinger, community relations director of the Graves Museum of Archaeology and Natural History. "This kind of pulls all the places together." Yinger and a few others began developing the idea about four months ago as a way to support tourism.

When I finally decided to use this highway, I found it to be a moving experience. Not only did it get me from place to place, but it became my moving yellow pages. Instead of walking through it, I rode through it. I take my trusty tape recorder along with me and as I drive, and the vehicles that drive by with their logos are either a reminder for me or a new company to do business with possibly in the near future.

It can't hurt." The cost will be covered by participating businesses. Businesses wanting a stop on the route will pay $115 each month. So far about a dozen businesses have purchased stops. Attorneys for the adult businesses could not be reached for comment on Wednesday by calling their offices or homes. County lawyers said the businesses may try to freeze the law again by appealing to the Florida Supreme Court. "It's a preliminary victory, but we'll take any victory," Deputy County Attorney Sharon Cruz said.

Myers said north Broward residents hope the courts will not let the clubs stall the law any longer. "Their whole game plan is to keep it going in the courts forever," Myers said. "They have a battery of expensive lawyers. That's what's so frustrating about it. We know they'll always be in court." FROM PAGE 1B County may begin enforcing '93 law on adult nightclubs garters.

The restrictions apply only in unincorporated areas of the county, where adult businesses have congregated after, cities such as Fort Lauderdale drove them out with tough laws and crackdowns. County officials had hoped the costly restrictions would force some of the businesses to close or move. Only a handful did. More than a dozen remain in business. "I don't think it's done anything in our area so far," Cresthaven resident Mike Raglin said.
