Sioux Fall Argus-Leader 7D Sanday, July 6, 1958 FILM TRAGEDY-A TO Around World To Play State Movie Moguls Lacking in Words Wants Mink," "Lady and the Tramp" and (ah, simplicity)! "That Lady." 1 1 self for a pleasant afternoon of movie title reading clear through you are in for a disappointment. I'm now going all the way not in this weather. But exploring the department is in order since it mentioned earlier What does suggest to us red-blooded men? Why, sex of course. But the movie moguls are coy enough to imply sex in film titles. Only title with that word in evidence is "The Second Greatest Sex," a musical comedy." THAT WORD is implied of fen in the pigeon hole, But sometimes implications are only imagined.

"The Strip," for instance, denotes a locality rather than an activity. Most-used title word under is stranger "Stranger on Horseback," "Stranger at My Door," "Stranger in Between" FACE DANGEJl Don Murray, right, and Jay C. Flippen prepare for action in "From Hell to Texas," due Wednesday at the Hollywood. By RALPH GREEN Argus-Uidor StaH Wrlttr Kipling wrote: "A woman is only a woman, but a good cigar is a smoke." "And you can light either end." Some huckster, not Rudyard, is responsible for that last. It is reasonable to believe he wasn't referring to women.

Time was when women blew steam "from their ears when backhanded by Kipling's observation. That was before they learned "It's iove that makes the world go 'round" and how closely they are associated with love. It's been some time since women stopped taking offense at such sly digs as Shakespeare's "Men have died from time to time, and worms have eaten them but not for love." It will be even longer before the gentler sex will stop agreeing with another of the bard's observations: "Love sought is good, but given unsought is better." IT'S GUYS like Shake speare who are responsible for women assurance, born of a knowledge of the importance of love and the vital part they play in it. For "love" is the most overworked word in literature. The same holds true in movie titles.

It seems that the men in Hollywood aren't doing much to lower feminine ego. Recent film titles include "Love Nest," "Love in the Afternoon," "Lover Boy," "Love Is Better Than Ever," "Latin Lovers," "Love Is a Many-Splendored Thing" and "Loving You," film custom-built for Elvis Presley. Not every woman is a lady but there are many iady" titles rubbing elbows with "love" in the file. There is, for example' the lady who sat a horse with skill, but little else "Lady Godiva." Then there's "Lady in the Iron Mask." "Lady and the Bandit," "The Lady MILE EAST ON ADULTS SOo 1 Which proves that Hollywood can be virile when it wants to be. One of Hollywood's greatest needs is more variety in movie titles.

A case in point is the file which lists only "Zanzabuku." "Zarak" and "Zero Hour." "Zarak" is particularly interesting, having to do with how Zarak Khan steals one of his father's wives. An unusual film twist is that the father fails to express appreciation. Fact that there are only three titles indicates how badly Hollywood needs imagination. If you have a relative or friend in the movie business, send him a dictionary. He might come up with such gems as "I Was a Teen-Aga Zither" and "Zodiac Madness' without half trying.

And there are 25 other letters A through to experiment with. KIDS III CAR FREE! Kcter A Western Qe ft! THE COtOft. "ADVENTURES OF TOM SAWYER" (Now) Mark Twain's classic, probably the most popular of all stories of its kind, is continuing to attract large audiences at the Hollywood. In the film, from one of the best-read books of all time, the many adventures are treated effectively. They include encounters with Injun Joe, raft voyage of Tom and Huck Finn, cave adventure of Tom and Becky Thatcher and finding of treasure. EGYPTIAN "LAFAYETTE ESC A-DRILLE" (Now) Tab Hunt-er, Etchika Choreau. A war drama centering around one of the young Americans who chose to fight for France before the United States entered World War I.

Hunter is cast as an incorrigible who joins the organization for excitement, rebels against discipline, is disgraced and then regenerated. "STAKEOUT ON DOPE STREET" (Now). Yale Wex-ler, Jonathan Haze. The familiar subject of traffic in narcotics gets a new slant in a generally sober and convincing story of what happens when three high school lads find uncut heroin. "VIOLATORS" (Wednesday) Arthur O'Connell, Nancy Malone, A probation officer, well known for his sympathetic understanding of his young charges, faces a real problem when his only daughter 'get into trouble.

"THIS IS RUSSIA" (Wednesday) A documentary film, taken by newsman Sid Feder inside Russia. Contains many revealing situations even though filmed under close supervision. EAST PARK "BERNADINE" (To night) Pat Boone, Terry Moore. An unusual film in which five high school boys conjure up the image of an ideal girl, find her in real life but lose her to a more mature wooer. Shown is the change-over from adolescence to manhood.

Boone's vocal ability New fashioned State Theater, now screening "The Vikings," has another top motion picture due Friday. It. is "Around the World in 80 Days," one of the most publicized and outstanding pictures of any year. The imaginative film, from a story by Jules Verne, has an outstanding cast which includes David Niven, Cantinflas, Robert Newton, Shirley MacLaine, Charles Boyer, Joe E. Brown and Martine Carol.

Niven plays a Britisher who, with his "gentleman's gentelman," circles the globe in 80 days armed only with a carpetbag full of money to win a bet with his whist-playing cronies. Niven and Cantinflas, gentleman and prankish valet, use almost every mode of transportation available in 1872 in their journey balloon, steamer, train, ostrich, elephant, etc. The picture contains many elements of superior entertainment including "bits" by 50 film stars. Now at the State is "The Vikings," starring Kirki Douglas, Janet Leigh, Er-nest Borgnine and Tony Curtis. This spectacular concerns the abduction of a princess by Vikings and her rescue by a slave who is really heir to England- Northumbrian throne.

HOLLYWOOD "FROM HELL TO TEXAS" (Wednesday) Don Murray, Diane Varsi, Chill Wills. Here is a refreshing Western that puts a new aspect on timeworn material. By accident, a young man kills the son of a powerful cattle baron and becomes the, object of a relentless search that intensifies when a second son dies in the manhunt. The pursued does his best to prevent killing. During his exciting flight, he meets many perils and is helped by everyone he meets trader, bartencer, priest, rancher and pretty girl.

"Love" has no monopoly in any movie title file. Many of the titles still on file in my desk are old but they serve to demonstrate how some words are pver-worked.

More titles are filed under 5 than any other letter. But let's be-systematic and start with A. Love creeps in here too, outnumbered only by Abbott 6 Costello i the mummy, the Keystone Kops, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and Capt.

There are "Apache Drums," "Apache Warrior," "Apache War Smoke" and ''Apache Ambush." Also "Ambush at Tomahawk" and "Ambush at Cimarron Pass." When places for ambushes run out, there's always the moon. Things are really "big" in the pidgeonhole: "Big Beat," "Big Caper," "Big Fun Carnival," "Big House," "Big Frame," "Big Gusher," "Big Heat," "Big Sky," "Big Boodle," "Big Land." Plus "Bigger than Life" and "The Bigamist." hardly counts in the title duplication category, although we can't ignore "Count Five and Die." For those who can't count to five, there's "Count Three and Pray." For those more highly educated there's "Count the Hours." Things are dangerous in the segment of the Index "Dan Mission," "Dangerous When Wet," "Dangerous Crossing" and "Dangerous Youth." They're desperate in two instances "Desperate Hours" and "Desperate Search." If you have settled your SUPER HI-WAT 38 KIDS IN GAR FREE COME AS AREI im.
