Hanes Archibald 1 David Hanes, 54, 15 Fauquier Place, Newport News, died Sunday in McDonald Army Hospital Ft. Eustis. A retired major of the U.S. Army, he was employed as a marine engineer at Ft. Eustis.

He was a member of Transporation Lodge 337, Ft. Eustis; National Sojourners Lodge and Reformation Lutheran Church. He was a veteran of World War II and Korea. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Helen Louise Hanes; his daughter, Mrs.

Donald Stillman of Virginia Beach; two sons, Carl F. Hanes at home and D. Bruce Hanes of Philadelphia, his sister, Mrs. Tulip Atkins of Louisiana and his brother, J. K.

Hanes of Silver Spring, Md. A funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Reformation Lutheran Church by the Rev. Karl A. Grieshaber.
