24 Daily Press, Friday, March 30, 1984 Bond refused in assault case ISLE OF WIGHT A county man accused of attempting to rape and murder a door-to-door magazine saleswoman last week was refused bond Thursday by General District Court Judge Robert Edwards. Carl C. Robinson, 22, was charged Tuesday with attempted murder and attempted rape of a 19-year-old Las Vegas woman who was selling magazine subscriptions in Isle of Wight Mobile Home Village. A magistrate refused to set bond for Robinson and after he was arraigned Thursday, his court-appointed attorney asked Edwards to set "a reasonable bond." Herb Wornom said his client had one previous conviction for assault and battery but is a lifelong resident of the county and would show up at future court hearings. Commonwealth's Attorney W.

Parker Councill said he was not concerned about Robinson appearing as much as the danger he presents to the community. Robinson spoke briefly dur ing the bond hearing, denying heavy drug use. He claimed the victim approached him with an offer of drugs, which contradicts her statement to police. Deputy C. L.

Arney said Robinson gave him a statement saying he "was so messed up he didn't realize what he was doing." Councill said in addition to the brutal nature of the attempted rape the woman was choked to unconsciousness "she was thrown into a borrow pit lake and (he) left her to drown." Judge Edwards then refused to set a bond for Robinson and remanded him to the Suffolk Jail. In another matter in General District Court, Michael A. Edwards, 23, of Route 1, Carrollton, was bound over to the county grand jury on a charge of burglary and grand larceny. Edwards is charged with breaking into the home of Ernest Evans Jr. on Oct.

Two area communities, Gloucester Point and West Point, are among 21 Virginia places included on a list of 684 recently designated by FCC for future establishment of FM stations. Thomas W.

Robinson and William L. Eure of Petersburg have operated the AM daytime station here since January 1981. The station has operated since June 1958. If successful in obtaining the FM license, WDDY could operate full time and would continue to operate the AM station, Robinson said. The full-time capability would allow the station to cover Middle Peninsula high school football and basketball and add other programming.
