20. Statements from official sources that the Arabic episode is likely to be adjusted without further friction betweefi this counry and tier-many furnished the basis for another moderate upward movement today. Trading was relatively quiet, except in the opening and final trading but what it lacked in activity was offset by greater breadth. Metal stocks were in general demand, their strength being associated with the better market abroad, copper futures registering an advance of three pounds sterling per ton in London. Shares of the various steel and iron companies made, additional gains.

Foreign buying Vas again a factor in this industry, more orders being received for British and French account. United States Steel was under pressure, however, despite opening gains. War shares moved uncertainly, scoring early gains of 2 to 5 points, but makinii little upward progress later. Railroad were again a negligible quantity, their occasional advance of a point lieing the signal tor hear attacks. Realizing sales reduced many gains at the close.

Tin' critical state of the foreign exchange situation was again exemplified in renewed weakness for remittances to London, Paris aaid Rome. Recurrent selling of bonds Air future delivery caused some irreonl.irit in list. Jotal sales, par value, aggregated Cnited States bonds were unchanged on call. MONEY. New York, Aug.

Frost was particular ly feared as the crop is late being gathered, the recent chilly weather having retarded its ripening. The market showed firmness through the last half of the session and buying was active. Oats eased a little after a firm opening.
