9 lu ThurnHy, Wruwy 2S, 1993 second family equals twice the blessing The Lowe Down Angela R. Low IVe written often about my family and how important they are to me. I haven't really mentioned my "second family," and I'd like to tell you about them. When James and I married five-and-a-half years ago, I gained a whole new set of relatives. I didn't think much about that at the time, but I do consider It a point of importance.

Getting along with the in-laws Is part of a marriage; most people don't want to admit It. but it's true nonetheless. I cannot complain about my second set of parents. They have treated me like a daughter, welcoming me Into their lives and home with a warmth and openness that can only come from a sincere heart. When I walk In their door, I am at home; just like I am when I'm at my parents.

WeVe never had any quarrels and I hope that record continues. My mother-in-law is a tiny lady with a heart that stretches further than the horizon. I've That's sad. Marriage means more than committing yourself to another individual. Like it or not.

that person has relatives that go with the deal too, to a certain extent anyway. If you have trouble with them, you may have trouble with the hubby or wife. Blood ties arc tough to sever. The important part is trying. I realize I'm very fortunate that I have a second family that loves me like their own daughter or sister.

It's equally Important to me that they know I love them too. Not because I married their son and brother, but because they have accepted me In spite of that fact. They consider me family and I feel the same of them. And that's the way it should be. Marriage is about two people coming together In love and committing themselves to that love forever.

It's also about becoming a new member of another family that should grow to be as important as your own. Marriage has been very good to me. I gained a husband, a mother, father and brother all in one day. Each of them has made my life a little richer, a little sweeter than it was before. That's what family is supposed to do.

Make life better during the good times, and help share the sorrow during the tough times. In this, I've been doubly blessed. this rare combination of thoughtfulness and humbleness that makes him sometimes quite a man, sometimes a very concentrated man. but always a man who weighs all sides of an issue. My mom-in-law has a special delight for porcelain dolls and tiny figurines and all things dainty.

I guess it's only fitting since she's such a dainty thing herself. Pop, as I call him, likes rising early in the morning and spending his rare moments of free time working on his house. Carpentry skills run In his family and he generally keeps his put to use. Now, my brother-in-law. He'll be 16 this year and I've seen some major changes in him.

He's got a lot of potential. Sports is his field of speciality and I know with the right amount of application, he can really excel. He's never been lacking in popularity and if things don't change, his mom and dad may have to get an unlisted number. I know adjusting to a new family takes time. But it also takes willingness on both sides to make the adjustment a successful one.

Too many times I've heard of couples who can't get along with their respective inlaws for one reason or another. Some are valid, some are simply excuses because neither side is willing to put forth any amount of effort. never met anyone as loving, giving and gentle as the woman who IVe grown to consider to be my second mom. She's always willing to listen and never falls to give me encouragement when I'm feeling a little uncertain of myself. But then, moms do that.

My father-in-law is a big. solid guy with a very unique sense of humor. He probably doesn't realize how good he Is with people and how often he makes them smile.
