The WKMG anchor has parted ways with the CBS affiliate after years and three years after replacing Grace Ra-bold (now Grace Hargis) as the station's main co-anchor with the time, as "somebody with a lot of sparkle, just being herself, that comes right through the TV set." Gale was pulled as 1 1 p.m.

news anchor about a year and a half ago, although she remained as anchor of the 5 and 6 p.m. newscasts. Gale had planned to work through the end of January, but she and station bosses decided on Wednesday to part company immediately. Her final newscast was Dec. 28.

Gale is spending her free time working on a children's book that looks at overcoming David Wittman. Gale, 39, described her departure as an "amicable" mutual agreement with station management, which had wanted to move her off the anchor desk to work as a reporter on WKMG's "Problem Solver" team. Jeff Sales, WKMG's general manager, said it is station policy not to comment on personnel issues. Gale's departure follows the exits of sports director Gordie Hershiser, long-time reporter Craig Eicher and the addition of weathercaster Tom Sorrells, a move that has lowered weather- caster Pamela Brady's profile at the station. "They are making a lot of changes there, and they had talked a few months ago about wanting to go in another direction on the anchor desk," Gale said.

"I felt like I had worked hard for them and given them my best, and when I saw them making the changes they were making, I realized it wasn't the place I wanted to work any more."
