GREENWOOD COMMONWEALTH, GREENWOOD, WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON, AUGUST 18, 1937. FAGE FIVE SOCIETY Sigma Chi Dinner And Dance, Sept. 2. The annual Sigma Chi lance will be given this year on September 2nd, at the National Guard Armory in Jackson, and Sigma Chis, rushees and dates will gather first for a banquet on the Robert E. Lee Roof.

Fraternity hosts and their friends anticipate a brilliant evening; and elaborate plans for decorations include the fraternity flower, White rose, and the significant colors of blue and old gold. Committees in charge are: William H. Hewitt, Harry Bryan, L. H. Goff, Longstreet Hamilton, and Thompson McClellan, all of Jackson; Norman Brewer, Greenwood; Birney Imes, Brewer, Greenwood; Birney Imes, Columbus: James Biendenharn, Vicksburg; and Harry Wilson of Columbus.

Greenwood Sigma Chis who are privileged to attend the dance are: David and Norman Brewer, Hubert Barnett, Brent Quinn, Dick Denman, Gus Tate, Paul Dent, Charlie Neblett, and John Mann. Conant-Sanders. Mr. E. P.

Conant of Minter City announces the engagement and approaching marriage of his daughter, Henrietta, to Mr. Rogers Sanders of Moorhead. The ceremony will be performed on October the third at the home of the bride's father. Miss Conant attended Grenada College. Mr.

Public hearings will be held Friday and Saturday to give delegates from levee districts an opporunity to make recommendations. Roe Compliments Visitors. Mrs. J. D. Roe was hostess at a lovely bridge party at the Country Club on Tuesday evening complimenting her attractive young guests, Misses Alice McGregor of Dallas, Dorothy MeNeill of Hazelhurst, and Margaret Klingman of Indianola.

A color motif of lavender and pink was expressed in the flowers which filled the spacious rooms and in the dainty refreshments which were served. Twelve tables of guests comprised the favored ones, and Miss Virginia Jones and Mr. Shack Smith received awards of skill at bridge. Miss Lulu Bledsoe and Mr. Knox Lamb cut the consolation prizes.

Each of the honorees was presented a pretty gift by their hostess, who was graciously assisted in the evening's hospitality by Mrs. Alf George and Mrs. D. S. Wheatley.

Jack Dempsey Arrives. Chicago, Aug. 18 (1927) -Jack Dempsey, tanned a deep saddle brown, in Chicago today just five weeks from the time he will step into the ring with Gene Tunney in an attempt to win back the world's heavyweight championship. The Greenwood Kiwanians enjoyed their annual picnic and outing yesterday at McIntyre Lake Club House, when around 100 members and their families and guests gathered. Kiwanian McNulty succumbed to many urges and presided at the piano for a few numbers.

The Hinman-Blackston quartette furnished music in their usual top style, and the evening was a tremendous success. There was no rain and not even many mosquitoes.
