It takes about 10 days for the eggs to hatch and the polywogs remain in the tadpole stage almost three months. They feed on mosquitoes, small flies and beetles. Peepers are very shy and it is STAGE I ATLAS This being Leap Year, it might be a good time to replace the Groundhog with the Spring Peeper as official spring forecaster. One enthusiast, who formerly lived in Killingworth, even suggested that perhaps the first day the peepers call should be a na tional holiday. Although the Spring Peepers are heard in every town in the State, very few people have ever actually seen a specimen.

They are little tree frogs an inch long, light-brown, tawny or pinkish above, with an X-shaped mark on the back and dark bars on the legs. They have small suction discs on their toes for climbing, but are rarely seen more than one foot above the ground. The males do all the calling, and their throats swell up into a shiny white globule, like 'a child blowing bubble-gum. One observer with a musical ear has noted that the chorus starts off by one frog sounding the note of another chimes in with a and then a third with a a full chorus being made up of many of these individual trios. Mating starts in April and the eggs are laid singly in grass and 0XYGEN XT 4 xX L0X TANK TANK ney Aircraft XLR-115 liquid hydrogen rocket engines.

Scotland Woman Gives State Land The gift to the state of 300 acres of land in the Town of Scotland by Mrs. Henry S.

Bowers of Scotland was announced Saturday by Donald C. Mathews, director of the State Park and Forest Com mission. The tract of land is situated midway bwtween Norwich nd New London on the easterly side of Rte. 93 a short distance north of the Sprague town line. The gift land was assembled by the Bowers family over a span of 50 years.

A family of bridle trails have been developed through the forest to give access to the area of forest fire protection. Mathews said the new forest, like other state forests, will be open to public hunting and will provide a welcome addition of 300 acres to the state's hunters. Here is a list of firm and possible uses for the engine: 1. Second stage power for Centaur, pictured above. Centaur will be able to place an 8,500 pound payload in a 300 mile high orbit of earth or push 1,500 pounds into a space path like that of Pioneer V. Centaur is also to be used to place a "stationary" communica- tions satellite in a 22,300 mile or bit.

First firing in mid-1961. 2. Third stage of the early Saturn rocket which will have a 1.5 million pound thrust booster. This will be a modified Centaur sec ond stage. Both of these projects will use two of the engines rated at 15,000 pounds thrust each.

Slated for test next year. 3. Second stage of the early Saturn. Four engines, improved to produce 20,000 pounds thrust each, will power this stage. This is the C-l model of Saturn, designed to place 23,000 to 25,000 pounds in orbit, depending on height of the orbit.

4. These two stages will be used as the third and, fourth stages of the later C-2 version of Saturn which will utilize two of the 200,000 pound thrust hydrogen engines as its second stage. The C-2 version will be able to place 45.000 pounds in orbit, send two men around the Moon or land radio equipment on Mars or Venus. 5, In the C-3 version of Saturn the two stages will form the fourth and fifth stages of a total of five stages. The second stage of C-2 will be used as third stage in C-3 and four of the 200,000 pound thrust engines will be used as a second stage.

From this the importance of hydrogen tfi rocket fuel can be seen. All upper stages of Saturn, America'! Gleaming hope for space supremacy, will use the chemical as a fuel. By RICHARD MOURE A powerful rocket engine being developed by Pratt Whitney Aircraft appears to be living up to expectations, and possibly more so. The engine, using liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen for pro-pellants, is scheduled to be used in several versions in a new gen eration of U.S. space vehicles which could bring this country at least even with Russia in the field of propulsion.

Statements made in the United Aircraft Corp. annual Pictorial Report, which accompanied the corporation's annual report, mdi' cate the rocket engine is produc mg a specific impulse of "more than 410" seconds. Measures Power Specific impulse is a standard measure of rocket power. The term represents the amount of thrust in pounds derived from the burning of one pound of pro-pellant in one second. The phrase more than indi cates the engine is producing power readings even above those predicted for engines using liquid hydrogen as a fueL The 410 second rating is about 30 per cent more than that gained by conventional rocket propel- lants such as kerosene and liquid oxygen.

The figures used in the report must certainly represent power produced under space conditions since most tests of the engine have been run in vacuum chambers designed to simulate the vacuum of space. is also now in competition with a number of other com panies which are building liquid hydrogen engines for a contract and to develop a 200,000 pound thrust hydrogen engine. Greg Taylor is grooming teens in dancing end social etiquette in sugar coated ways the teens consider fun.

If you 'honestly face up to some teen-age memories or have a daughter or son who talks things over you don't have to be reminded that a party dress often covers a heart that's about to break. Or that a new dark suit doesn't necessarily mean that all's right with the world. The girl or boy with little social experience is most likely to be the unhappy one at parties. If they don't know how to act, or what to say, they make embarrasing boners, or stumble around the dance floor red-faced, or worse yet, DON'T DANCE AT ALL Soon they'll hate dances and social gatherings, ana may never feel completely at ease at them. It's strange the way we all emphasize the importance of school education for our children and then, likely, leave their SOCIAL EDUCATION to chance and hard knocks.

True, some schools are starting social etiquette classes that help tremendously. But that doesn't give anybody social experi Displaying the Latest Trend In Contemporary and Authentic Traditional Reproductions In many towns parents have long since recognized the need for dancing classes partly to teach dancing, it's true, but even more to teach social skills and a few social graces, that makes for happier girl-boy relations in high school, eases the way fo those going to college, and helps all of the teens all through their lives. The Greg Taylor classes for teens are as concerned with behavior as with basic dance steps. Besides learning fox trot waltz cha cha cha tango rock and roll and all the other Latin and American dances, the boys are shown the simple (but to them important) art of asking a girl to dance, how to cut in properly, there's no running across the floor or letting a partner get stranded. Boys learn to escort their partners off the dance floor without eatas-trophies.

THROUGH PRACTICE during these Spring classes these important social musts as well as the latest dance steps become as natural as eating with a fork, so by the time the teens have completed the ten week session they are quite a polished group, let alone confident dancers. And learning isn't painful. Teens accept being taught by Greg Taylor, their instructor, fust as they do in school. Besides, the Greg Taylor dance classes have a party-like atmospheredancing is fun.
