R. L. Stewart was struck by lightning and Mr. Stewart and three other parties were considerably shocked. Mr.

Stewart was lying on the counter at the time with bis head resting near a show case, not far from his feet on the counter was an smbrella; several watches in the show case were ruined and the umbrella was set on fire by the lightning and it is miraculous that Mr. Stewart was not killed. Ford says the story that Edwin Booth saved the life of Robert T. Lincoln, President Lincoln's son, is essentially correct. The occurrence was between March i and '6, lb7G, and was published about ten years ugo. It happened at Bowling Green, or at a station between that place and Nashville, Tenn. Mr.

Ford had been travelling through the South with a company, at the head of which was Mr. Booth, and it was at the close of Mr. Booth's engagement. Mr. Booth and Mr.

Lincoln were both waiting for a traiu. Mr. Lincoln was walking up and down the track absent-mindedly and did not notice an engine backing down upon him. Mr. Booth pulled him aside when the engine was so near that it actually touched Mr.

Lincoln's heels. The latter was much overcome, shook hands with the actor, and expressed his profound gratitude. At that time Mr. Booth did not know the identity of the man he had saved. Some years ago Edwin Booth erected a monument to his father at Greenmount Cemetery.
