A native of Wilson, N.C, he had been a Hampton resident for 35 years.

He wanted us to acknowledge his appreciation to all of you for the friendship you shared with him for so many years, as well as his earnest prayer that you will commit your lives to the Lord, in hopes that, one day, he may share your friendship again. He was a faithful member of Abundant Life Tabernacle Church and truly enjoyed going to church and reading the Bible. Scoggins his daughter-in-law, whom he felt was special, Sue Carole Scoggins; his grandson, who he loved deeply and with whom he shared a special relationship, Jonathan Redden Scoggins; a close nephew, Frederick Royal; all of Newport News, and a devoted and faithful nephew who was always there in difficult times, Crawford S. Parker of York-town. Redden was predeceased by his mother, Al Johnnie Bass Scoggins and his father, Joseph MacDougle Scoggins, both of Fayetteville, N.C; three brothers, David M. Butler CARBOLLTON ZNolie 0. Butler, 87, of 14297 Slant Drive, died Oct. 3 1 1995. IA native of Isle of Wight County, he retired from Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Portsmouth. He was a member of Mount Sinai Baptist Church and an Army veteran of World War II.

Funeral Chapel. William Goens Sr. ORDINARY William Read Goens 58, died Tuesday, Oct. 31, 1995. He was a native of Newport News and had been a Middle Peninsula resident most of his life.

He was a Marine veteran, employed for 22 years as a pipefitter, welder at Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Hampton and most recently was a self-employed owner-operator of Happy's Ice Cream in Ordinary. He was predeceased by his father, Charles H. Goens one son, William R. Goens Jr. and infant daughter, Vickie A.

Goens. He is survived by his wife, Joyce A. Goens; four daughters, Lisa A. Goens and Donna L. Jamerson, both of Shacklefords, Brenda L.

HAMPTON Mr. Leo Goo 75, died Wednesday, Nov. 1, 1995, at his residence. A native of Montana, he had been a Peninsula resident for 32 years. Mr.

Goo retired from the U.S. Navy as a chief petty officer, serving in World War II and Korea. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 25 in Newport News. Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Leo and Mary Goo and a dear friend, Hildegard Davner.

The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, 1995, in Yorktown Naval Weapons Station Chapel.

Burial will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park. Herman Green GLOUCESTER POINT Herman Green, age 72, died Nov. 1, 1995. He was a lifelong resident of Gloucester and founder of Her-j man Green Seafood in 1975. Johnson, 64, died on Tuesday, Oct. 31, 1995. She was born in Caroline County, and had been a Peninsula resident for 43 years. She was employed as a clerk in the Hampton Treasurer's Office. She was a member of Wallace Memorial United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Johnson was very active in her church, serving in various offices, including past president of the WSCS. She was a teacher of the Dorcas Sunday School Class. She also was a member of the Grand-view Garden Club. 1 She is survived by her husband, E.

Lewis Johnson of Hampton; two daughters, Garnett L. Knuteson of Hampton, Gayle L. Kokolios of Lex-. ington Park, one son, Graham L. Johnson of Hampton; four sis ters, Frances W.

Wilbert Johnson 68, died on Monday, Oct. 30, 1995, at Portsmouth Naval Hospital. He was a resident of Grafton. Mr. Johnson retired from the Navy after 20 years of service.

He was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church, Yorktown, where he served as a trustee and member of the Men's Chorus and Senior Choir. He was a past worshipful master of Yorkstar Masonic Lodge No. 207. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Helen B.

1, 1995. Arrangements by Carter Funeral Home, Denbigh. Walter E. Taylor GLOUCESTER Deacon Walter Edward Taylor, 71, a lifelong resident of Gloucester, died Monday, Oct. 30, 1995, in Riverside Regional Medical Center, Newport News.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He retired from New-port News Shipbuilding in 1989 after 26 year of service as a truck driver in the 054 Transportation Department. He was a member of Smithfield Baptist Church, where he served as chairman of the Deacon Board, treasurer of the Missionary Society and Sunday school teacher. He was president of the Gloucester-Mathews Deacons Union and member of the Gloucester Branch, NAACP.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Helen E. Taylor of Gloucester; mother, Maria F. Taylor of Gloucester; four sons, Larry E. Taylor and Walter A. Taylor Sr.

of Gloucester, Eamie Taylor of Richmond and Donnell L. Taylor of Gloucester; four daughters, Sandra C. Clayborne of Richmond, Diane C. Taylor of Gloucester, Melvina R. Taylor of Richmond and Angelina D.

Mr. Gregory Thomas Clark, 39, died Tuesday, Oct. 31, 1995, in" Riverside Regional Medical Center. native of Hampton, he had been sT Peninsula resident for 26 years. Mr.

Clark retired from Defense Mapping Agency, Washington, D.C., in 1988 after eight years of service. lie graduated from Bethel High School, the University of Virginia, and attended Michigan State University's graduate school. He was a tojunteer at the Virginia Living I 1 1 I Redden Scoggins Sr. NEWPORT NEWS Redden J. Scoggins 79, beloved husband and father, departed this life on Monday, Oct.

30, 1995, to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, as promised in the Scriptures, St. John "Let not your heart be troubled; ye believe in God, believe also in me. "In my Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you: I go to place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also." Redden was born March 26, 1916, in Lee County, N.C, and grew up in Fayetteville, N.C. He was a resident of Newport News for 54 years.

He became an employee of Newport News Shipbuilding in June 1941, where he worked for 14 years. He left the shipyard in 1955 and he and his brother, David M. Scoggins, founded Scoggins Bros. Painting, which he 'actively operated for the last 40 years, up until the past spring. In these latter years, his grandson, Jonathan Scoggins, was his business partner and constant companion and will continue to operate the business.

Mr. Scoggins was highly regarded in the business community as well as by the peo'ple he worked with over the years for his integrity and workmansliip. His clients and associates were more than that; they were his friends and he continued that close, personal relationship with them up until he passed away. He-Ias a simple and caring man who treasured.
