YliLLiVIISDOM CBS' three new sitcoms are equally lame BILL KELLEY Television Writer Si. It, I Just when things were beginning to calm down in network' television, here comes CBS with three repulsive new sitcoms. Eisenhower Lutz (9:30 p.m. Mondays), Trial and Error (8 p.m. Tuesdays) and Coming of Age (9 p.m.

Tuesdays) are, respectively, a lamebrained indictment of lawyers; a tiresome domestic parody about Hispanic roommates; and a mixed-gender clone of The Golden Girls. CBS is beating the drum loudest for Eisenhower Lutz, probably because it is the latest concoction from the once-fertile mind of Allan Burns (of Mary Tyler Moore Showtime). The sitcom was unveiled Monday by having the hit Newhart series ham-mocked between Eisenhower Luts first two episodes. tersection; when the laugh track doesn't drown everything out, we can hear the sounds of spectacular auto crashes in the background. There is no Eisenhower in the firm; the name was appended to add prestige.

Trial and Error, which deserves about a paragraph, gets two so the warning about it won't be overlooked. Paul Rodriguez (of ABC's unlamented aka Pablo) and Eddie Velez portray roommates who manage, in 30 minutes, to bug their eyes and drop their jaws more often than Jerry Lewis used to do in a 90-minute movie. They stumble and fall so often they ought to hire Bud Lutz as tlieir attorney: If there's a series that can make Eisenhower Lutz look good, it's Trial and Error. The only concession to non-racist reality is to give one character a good job. In the pilot, lawyer Velez complains to T- shirt salesman Rodriguez that he is being hired by a law firm because he is Hispanic.

From that feeble jab at social awareness we go to a desperate concession to the older audience that is CBS' staple viewership. Coming of Age stars excellent, well-known character actors Paul Dooley, Phyllis Newman, Glynis Johns, Alan Young as retirees, newly arrived in Arizona. Coming of Age is every bit as crude as Eisenhower Lutz and Trial and Error, but there's a bit more daring to the satire. One of its supporting characters is a senile woman who carries a miniature dog around in a paper bag, and dresses herself and her pooch in mother-and-daughter outfits, i That bit, and the references to sexual dysfunction that are de rigueur in any sitcom about people over 50, are funny. But you can't build a series on that foundation.

Lutz and Newhart. Bob Newhart and Scott Bakula (who plays lawyer Bud Lutz) sat on a sofa and hurled barbs at each other. There are a few clever ideas in Eisenhower Lutz but, as executed, they don't add up to anything. Unscrupulous, slip-and-fall attorney Bud Lutz's office is located at a dangerous in Phyllis Newman and Paul Dooley star in Coming of Age. The 40th annual Emmy Awards show will be telecast Sunday, Aug. 28, on Fox Broadcasting Co. For the first time, the Academy of Television Arts Sciences will hold its awards program at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. It will be the second year the awards show has been shown on Fox. The most likable character in the film is the crusty, opportunistic prospector played by Walter Huston, the screenwriterdirector's father.
