More than 650 people attended the event and devoured 707 pounds of beef prepared by Lou Hoffman, of Blrdseye, assisted by Mike Koich. Al though marred by a torrential rain and hail storm, the picnic, which will be held every year, brought in $524.25 in ticket sales. The construction was done by the two organizations at Crystal Creek in September. BEFORE CONSTRUCTION The upper portion of the Crystal Creek picnic area is pictured above.

The picture was taken before any development work was done on the area. Construction work on the area was done by members of the East Helena VFW in conjunction with the United States forest service. Preparatory work was begun last May and the actual construction of facilities began in September.
