On Halloween Friday in 1986 we moved into our pond side townhouse in theGlenview- Northbrook area. Despite the rigorous day of moving Virginia, you had candy on hand for the few little ghost who stopped by prior to night fall. This was your thoughtful nature in play, always covering all bases. Virginia you were a great cook, who always pleased family and friends with their favorite dishes. Forniece Carol it was your Spicy Chili.

For brother-in-law Jim from your first marriage to Sam Parenti, it was Fluffy Frittata. For auntie Jim wife, it was your New Orleans style Jambalaya. For niece Ann Marie, it was your classic Minestrone Soup. For Ann Marie hubsand Bob it was your Meat sauce layered Lasagna. For sister-in-law Della, it was Creamy Chicken Divan.

For great-nephew David, it was your moist meat loaf. For your favorite nephew Dennis, of Bellwood Days, it was your mouth watering Egg Plant Parmesan. You always cooked from scratch, a master of innovation and seasoning. By November of 2001when your combination of always fatalMultiple Myeloma and heart attackhs left you incapable of entertaining family and friends any longer, your desire to cook for groups wanedduring your remaining days of your life until your death on July 10, 2003. Last weekend as I stood in front of your crypt in the St.

Agnes Room at Queen of Heaven Mausoleum in Hillside Illinois, I could smell and taste two of my favorite dishes you often made for me, your epic potato salad and your brown sugared Acorn Squash. Virginia, some where in eternity I will enjoy your culinary expertise once again. Your husband Paul. LEDEBUHR, ERNST G. February 18, 1940 to October 30, 1995 It has been 10 years ago since your sudden passing.

Today and everyday we remember you re love, smile and true love for life. You taught by example with your since of humor, intelligence and most of all your selflessness. We hope to share these qualities and special memories of you, with your grandchildren, who you didn get to meet. You are deeply missed and thought of each day by friends and family. We love you and you are in our hearts forever.

John father, the late Reverend Sadook de Mar Shimun, became a political exile in the 1930s, relocating to London, England and then Chicago, while John with his mother and sister were moved to Beirut, Lebanon. In 1948, John joined his father in Chicago, the city where Sadook de Mar Shimun founded St. John Assyrian American Apostolic Church.

Chicago would become John beloved and lifelong home. Rather than follow his family centuries-old religious tradition, John chose to embrace the American wayof life. Between 1954 and 1958, John served in the United States Army, based in FortStewart, Georgia, where he befriended many African- American soldiers and became an outspoken advocate for civil rights. Returning to Chicago in 1958, John became involved in the grocery store business, managing one of the storesin the old supermarket chain. Over the next three decades, John would become owner and operator of several grocery stores and produce markets, located throughout Chicago north side.
