Hawkins, first assistant examiner, was submitted to the city council yesterday morning. It showed shortage of $3,888.57, as was reported Tuesday. The examiners believe that some attempt at concealment might have been made. Items shown as liot receipted and not accounted for were probably due to oversight rather than intentional concealment. All these items were of recent date and could easily liavo been overlooked, the examiners said, until a balance was taken at the cud of the month.

The accountants contend that "the real shortage was due to misappropriation of cash itself." They were unable to determine the period in which the shortage accrued. Hcfcr Keport to Offloinls. The report was referred to Mayor Percy Wltmcr and John G. Brown, city attorney, to make a demand on Barker's bondsmen upon a motion passed by the council. Tho day of his arrest Barker told Deputy County Attorney Arthur P.

lleywood ho would plead guilty, the attorney said yesterday. Punishment for Barker's act, carries a maximum penalty of five to 10 years in the state penitentiary, Mr. Heywood stated.
