And sometimes he would work for hours to make sure he captured the emotions a song deserved, said Chicago-based songwriter Harriett Daniel. was the Leonardo da Vinci of the sound she said. breathing life into our songs, he breathed life into our Mr. Soto, 53, who was known as was the creator and owner of Soto Sound Studio in Palatine.

He died Tuesday, Aug. 23, after a heart attack in his Palatine home, said his daughter Danielle Jordan. He had spent 27 years helping musicians with recordings. ate, drank and slept his daughter said. was just a one-man music Mr.

Soto, who was born in New York, moved to Evanston as a teenager and graduated from Evanston Township High School. Even as a teen, he knew he wanted to make music, his daughter said. could play whatever and make music from she said. played guitar, piano, keyboard, drums. He was very Mr.

Soto attended Oakton Community College and continued playing music there. The first time he went into the studio to record a song, he fell in love with the behind-the-scenes work it took to record a track, said vocalist Peter Love. felt he could do all that work that the engineer and arranger did Love said. hire somebody when he could do it himself? He got equipment and started in his apartment. It just grew and Mr.

Soto operated the equipment, arranged the vocals and instruments and sometimes helped write the music. His cli- entele included blues guitarists Buddy Guy and Lefty Dizz, jazz musician Fred Anderson and the Peter Tork. would call Jerry a Love said. Soto also is survived by two other daughters, Ashley and Ari; his mother, Miriam Schumer; two brothers, Leonard and Daniel; a sister, Naomi; and four grandchildren. Daniel Gibbard Tribune staff reporter In more than eight decades as a composer, Lora Aborn Busck wrote nearly every type of music; her ballet, opera, vocal and orchestral works were performed throughout the world.

But despite the diversity of her work, a thread of spirituality ran through much of her music, infusing it with feeling that swept up listeners and brought them into her world. was very sensitive per- sonand said renowned mezzo-soprano Jennifer Larmore. think probably her compositions came out of that on many a Ms. Aborn, as she was known professionally, died Thursday, Aug. 25, in Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Chicago.

A 75- year resident of the Oak Park- River Forest area, she was 98 and had battled two types of cancer recently, as well as kidney failure and other ailments, said her daughter Chatka Ruggiero. Ms. Aborn was born in New York. Her mother, a piano teacher, got her started in music, Ruggiero said, and she proved precocious. She gave her first recital at age 10, playing her own compositions at New Wannamaker Hall.

Her motherdied when Ms. Aborn was 13, and she spent her high school years living with a grandmother in California. Afterward, she came to Chicago to study at the American Conservatory of Music, where she was awarded a gold medal for composition upon graduation, Ruggiero said. After arriving in Chicago, she met and married antique-book seller Harry Busck, who died in 1999. Included in Ms.

large body of work are five full-length ballets and numerous solo dances, chamber choir pieces and two one-act operas. She wrote Mystic for organist Dexter Bailey, using lyrics from Walt Whitman. would always go through different books; she liked to find lyrics for all her own Ruggiero said. And family members say that Mrs.

Boshes enjoyed experiencing many events with her friend. two of them went to the Symphony and Lyric Opera said her son Dr. William Caro of Chicago. were an amazing They both lived to see their 100th birthdays. Mrs.

Boshes, 100, of Chicago died of pneumonia Sunday, Aug. 28, in Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Shanoff died in September at age 105. Born on Nov. 8, 1904, Mrs.

Boshes grew up on the Southwest Side as the youngest of eight children. In the early 1920s, she attended the University of Chicago for two rarity for a woman at that giving up school to help support her family as a secretary for the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. In 1930, Mrs. Boshes married Dr. Marcus Caro, a dermatologist, and the couple had two children, William and Ethel, who were raised in Winnetka.

Dr. Marcus Caro died in 1962. In 1970Mrs. Boshes married a widower, Dr. Benjamin Boshes, who was a neurologist at Northwestern Memorial.

That year the couple moved into the John Hancock Center, where they were among the first tenants. Benjamin Boshes died in 1984. As Mrs. age advanced, she slow down, family members say. was remarkably active late in said Mrs.

grandsonMark Caro, a reporter for the Tribune. Having traveled little during her youth, Mrs. Boshes became a globetrotter in her 60s along with her husband, Caro said. At age 85, Mrs. Boshes made the TVnews in Chicago protesting a proposal in which street- level retail stores would have replaced the plaza on the west side of the John Hancock Center.

Vollick notice. GREENWOOD, KATHERINE FLYNN Katherine Flynn Greenwood, 81, of Evanston, died peacefuly in her home while surrounded by her five loving children on August 26, 2005. Born in Chicago in 1924 to Edward Joseph Flynn and Mary Byrne Flynn, she lived a lifefull of passion and caring. As a 3rd generation Byrne family educator, she began her teaching career in Chicago Public Schools after completing her undergraduate degree at Chicago Teachers College. She went on to graduate from Northwestern University with a Master Degree in English Literature and began work with Scott Foresman as a Publisher Representative in Flagstaff, AZ, and San Francisco, CA.

She married W.T. Greenwood and lived in several university towns as she raised her five children. She returned to Chicago in 1969 with her children and settled in Evanston. While raising her five children, she worked in education and real estate. Later in life, sheembarked upon a part-time career as a commercial model.

Katherine Greenwood will be remembered for her eternal optimism, her passion for education and her undaunted enthusiasm. She is survived by her children, Cabell, Sally, Chris, Jon and Trish; her sister Polly Flynn; and her six grandchildren.
