Mays, a senior tailback, moved up to seventh on the all-time ACC rushing list with 3,414 yards in going over the mark this season with 1,064 yards. He scored on TD runs of 5 and 6 yards and caught a 16-yard pass from Shawn Jones for The Yellow Jackets (6-4 and 4-3 in the league) also got TD runs of 1-yard from Stefen Scot-ton, a 17-yarder from T.J. Edwards, field goals of 38 and 31 yards from Scott Sisson and a safety in winning for the fifth time in six games. Scotton added his 1-yard TD in the second period and Tech got a safety later in the quarter when Barnhill fumbled in his end zone and the ball was recovered by a teammate. Sisson then kicked his 31-yard field goal for a 22-0 lead at intermission.

The Yellow Jackets made it 29-0 on Mays' 6-yard run midway in the third period. Barnhill then drove Wake Forest 77 yards to the Tech 3 before fumbling on the Yellow Jackets' 5. Mays then capped a Tech 95-yard drive with his 16-yard TD on a screen pass. Edwards scored early in the final period.
