It was during this period of her life that she decided to work for Toys Us as a floor worker, She had been working for the company for five years and loved every minute of it. "Toys Us was her life," Williams said. "It was her first real job, and she put her whole heart and soul into it." She especially enjoyed the employee discount that helped her buy more dolls, her daughter said. As she wished, Stephens' daughters and grandchildren will have the choice of a particular doll that has special memories for them. The rest of the collection will be sold, said her son-in-law James Williams.

Before Stephens' husband, Howard, passed away six years ago, the couple would often just get up and leave the house. "They would just get up and go off somewhere, anywhere," Williams said. Paula Stephens, 59, died Saturday in her sleep. She collected dolls for 10 years and amassed a collection of more than 400 dolls of all kinds.

At first, she concentrated primarily on collectible, more-expensive dolls. Later, however, dolls of all shapes, sizes and costs became fair game. "Anywhere she could find them, she'd buy them," Williams said. "She developed a passion for Barbie dolls especially." Stephens' first collection was sold for around $3,000 so she could put one of her granddaughters through college. "She was crazy about her grandkids," Williams said.
