Joftnaon Viil. jm Slunntr The Connecticut Light Power Company was actually organized as The Rocky River Power Company in 1905. In 1917 The Rocky River Power Company acquired a number of other companies which had been in existence and' at that time became known as The Connecticut Light Power Company. Those companies so acquired were supplying electric service to 26,000 consumers. The Connecticut Light Power Company has steadfastly grown, step by step, with the construction of modern steam and hydro generating stations, high tension transmission lines, and high, pressure gas mains, until today it represent the consolidation of 18 companies and renders gas and electric service to sixty-seven cities and towns in Connecticut.

Its electric generating stations and gas producing plants are located at strategic points in the state, and its extensive network of high tension electric and high pressure gas lines extend north, south, east and west throughout the state. Greenwich in the southwest, Old Mystic in the Southeast, Mechanicsville in (the northeast and Colebrook in the northwest are some extreme points which have been brought, together in one vast system, serving more than 200,000 industrial, commercial and domestic consumers and reaching a total population of approximately 600,000 people. The generating and transmission system of Ths Connecticut Light and Power Company is interconnected with generating and transmission facilities of other utility companies, both within the state and also through New England and Eastern United States, thus reaping the benefit of diversity and guaranteeing as far as possible continuous service and continued growth of Conrlecticut industry. One interesting and' unique development in the generating system of The Connecticut Light ss Power Company is the Rocky River Hydro Generating Station, so named after the first incorporated company. This Hydro Station the only one of its kind yet deve.opsd pumps huge quantities of watei.from the Hoiisa-tonic River into an artificial lake more than 60 miles in circumference, at a higher elevation, from whence the water is permitted to flow back through the generating station.

Thus, during the wet season, when there is a surplus quantity of water, great quantities may be stored and used during the dry season, in much the some manner as one would fill his coal bin in the summertime, at a cheaper price than would be possible in the cold season. 1 The principal office of the company is located at xHartford, with district opsrating headquarters located at fifteen other cities and towns within the State. Day, Waterbury, vice-president; R. H. Knowlton, Hartford, vice-president; R. W. Perkins, Norwich, vice-president; C.
