TALLAHASSEE A weeklong baseball trip to Florida ended Friday when a car driven by a man trying to outrun police collided with a van carrying Bluefield State College baseball team members, killing one and sending four to the hospital. The team had just arrived in Tallahassee and was heading to their hotel when the accident occurred at about 1 a.m., said Leon County Deputy Sheriff: David Gilmore. As the van was leaving Interstate 10, it was hit by car driven by Albert Williams, 28, of Tallahassee.

Williams had been stopped earlier on a drug charge and was fleeing police. Williams may have been traveling at 80 mph when his vehicle hit the van, Gilmore said. "He started pulling away from the deputy near the interstate, and the deputy saw the vehicle disappear in a cloud of dust," Gilmore said. "He realized there was an accident." Killed in the accident was Shannon Stewart, 19, of Pineville. Mark Morgan, 22, of Hanover, W.

was being treated at Tallahassee Community Hospital. He was in stable condition Friday afternoon, Gilmore said. The team's head coach, Geoff Hunter, and two other students Ryan Mollette and Fred Thompson were treated and released, said college spokesman Jim Nelson in Bluefield, W.Va. Mollette's and Thompson's ages and home addresses were not immediately available. The team was in Tallahassee to play two games Friday and two Saturday.

Other games were scheduled for Fort Myers, and i in Savannah, Ga. The team was traveling in a three-van caravan and had left Bluefield on Thursday. Stewart was in the lead van. There were 34 people making the trip, Nelson said. The school chartered a bus to bring the team back to West Virginia Friday.

Williams was being held in Tallahassee Memorial Hospital and details about his injuries were not immediately known. He was charged with second-degree murder, possession of cocaine with intent to sell and aggravated fleeing and eluding, Gilmore said. Police found 28 baggies of powdered cocaine in Williams' vehicle, Gilmore said. Funeral notices are Funeral paid Notices, advertising. In Call Memoriams Cards of 420-5145 Thanks BUCHANAN, STELLA M.

IN LOVING MEMORY OF RAYMOND GENE GILBERT saw a motorcross race today. remember the smile on your face when you came home with your first trophy. I saw a kid barefoot skiing, I can still hear your "yee haw" as you did the same. watched your son pull a wheelie on his bike and thought of you going down the street on one wheel. Your children saw your killer at the race track with his arm around his girlfriends neck, wonder if "he" thinks about the night he put his arm around your neck and and took your life from those 2 precious kids.
