Regardless, here's something worth catching: WXXL is airing Casey Kasem's Year-End Countdown, featuring the Top 100 songs of the year and Kasem's trademark anecdotes about those who perform them. It runs from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. added after Lopez helped producers round up several hundred extras by talking about the film on the air.

Lopez had never seen the finished product until he heard about it from listeners. "I rented it the other day, and I enjoyed my 30 seconds of fame," he said. "I'm a frustrated actor, but I think I'm a damn good actor. I just never pursued it be ike professional ath-I letes, radio personalities I weU-Psitioned to I ii i iiplay themselves in the movies. Meanwhile, there's an outside chance that Street Wise from a series of TV jewelry ads. Periodically, an announcer would redirect listeners to WTLN's regular programming on 950 AM. Cox Radio Inc. of Atlanta is preparing to take over operation of the FM frequency through a local management agreement that is expected to be signed this week. The million-dollar questions are what the new station will play and when it will hit the airwaves.

There's widespread speculation that the station will be an Urban Contemporary Hits format that would be direct competition for Top 40 106.7 FM (WXXL) and Urban 102 Jamz. The station's program director, Phil Michaels, comes from 105.1 FM (WHQT), Cox's Urban Adult Contemporary outlet in Miami. As for when it might launch, the frequency could be silent for a while. "I don't think they are going to do anything right away," said Lee Brandel, music director at WTLN. "I think they will put a little break in the action before they start up." Cox is awaiting federal regulatory approval of its $14.5 million deal to buy WTLN from Orlando's Alton Rainbow Corp.

As part of the deal, Alton Rainbow bought 950 AM formerly kids station WZKD from Cox for $500,000. The deal, announced in February, is being challenged by Gross Communications Corp. of Orlando, owner of Smooth Jazz 103.1 FM (WLOQ), and by Press Broadcasting owner of WB television affiliate WKCF-Channel 18. Those companies allege it would give media companies owned by Cox an unfair competitive advantage. It would give Cox control of five FM stations, the most in Orlando.

The company also owns top-rated ABC affiliate WFTV-Channel 9 pez in Street Wise. The low-budget independent film represents the acting debut for Lopez, 39, who teams with Ms. and Brandi Shannon on the 102 Jamz "Wake Up Posse" on .101.9 FM (WJHM). "Who knows who's going to rent this movie and say, This guy's pretty he said. Move over, Howard Stern. ington, D.C. Because the film never received an industry rating, it never arrived in theaters. However, 102 Jamz listeners recently have sighted video at area Blockbuster outlets.

Street Wise, which was originally titled 247, is the story of three inner-city brothers with different approaches to life. One pursues a music career, another deals drugs, and the third wants to get an education. Lopez is featured in one scene in a role that isn't exactly "a stretch: He plays a radio DJ named Paco.
