Defense should be the strong point of the '77 edition of the Clovis Wildcats with seven of the eleven starters returning including one nose guard, two linebackers a defensive tackle, monster, safety and a defensive end who picked up a lot of experience last year i 'lovis sets up in a 5-2 defense, and lurking as the monster in that setup will be two-way starter Mike I'libarri Safety Ronnie Morris returns to his familiar position at safety. Krwin Beachum could possibly be the third man in he defensive backfield. Mike Gonzales returns to right defensive end where he started every game last year. Two-way starter Marty Wood will fill in at the tackle spot as will Joe Jones. If Jones moves to the offensive line letterman Sam Martinez coud step in to fill his shoes Pete Griego will assume his stance at nose guard with Jay- Hughes ready in relief.

Defensive ends Ron Joy and Robert Holder provide strength at the other defensive end position. Letterman Louis Smith and David Harrison could play a lot in the interior line this year The linebacking corps is steady with Paul Joy. Scott Petty and Rusty Norton. The kicking game, which makes or breaks many football games is excellent. Layne Walker will handle the punting chores and Mike I'libarri the place kicking assignments.

Kick returner Ronnie Morris should terrorize opponents again this year anytime he sees some running room Morris is considered the best kick returner in southwest high school football.
