BRIGHTON WANTS CHRIS EVANS RELEASED. J. V. Brighton, well known here as a detective, is quoted in the Los Angeles Express as favoring the grantof a pardon to Chris Evans. "I think he ought to be pardoned because he was playing the game fair.

ly. and the men he shot were in the game the same as he was, but lost instead of winning," sald J. V. Brighton, a guard at. the Soldier's Home, in explaining today why he wants to see Chris Evans, bandit and train robber released from prison.

"This is the first time I have ever given my real reason for endorsing the pardon of continued Brighton, "but it is the real one when taken in connection with the fact that Evans was ready to reform when 1 caught him and landed him in the pen. I always figured that if anyone ever got was out after thieves I would have no kick coming. because I was a professional gun man the same as the men who were shot. by Evans. 00 course, Evans was a crook, a natural born crook, but he played the game fairly and won often.

He is til years old now, his left hand is gone and his eyes are bad. He could do no harm out. of jail. "They seem to think it is strange that the man who went to such risk to take Evans and break up the Evans. Sontag gang, should want to see him pardoned.

and that is why I explain (my reasons as I do." D. S. Clark is in town today from Mojave. Curvas cano down from De. (lano last night.
