He graduated from Lake Forest College in 1936, was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity, and is a member of the Athletic Hall of Fame at the college. Bill served in the U.S.

Navy during WWII as a P.T. BoatCom- mander in the Pacific Theater of Operations. He operated the Standard Oil (AMOCO) service station in downtown Deerfield and surrounding areas. He was a School Board member of Deerfield School District a Boy Scout leader and an avid boater. She received her B.A. Degree from Grinnell College in Art and Art History. She later received an M.A. Degree from the University of Iowa in Art History and Painting. Mrs.Herzel had a life-long interest in fine arts andpainting.

She worked as an art teacher at the University of Iowa schools in the 1940 and later taught art in the public school systems inChampaign and River Forest, IL. She also worked as a journalist at the University of Illinois in Urbana. While Mrs. Herzel worked in these positions, her husband Leo finished his undergraduate, graduate and law school studies and joined the law firm known today as Mayer, Brown, Rowe Maw. He later served as co-chairman of the firm.

Eileen Herzel is survived by her husband of more than sixty years, Leo; her daughter, Sarah of Skokie; and her son, David of Albuquerque, NM. She was the director of Speech Activities at Hinsdale High School and instructor in Speech and Drama and director of major theatrical productions at Evanston High School. She was also a trainer in the Personnel Training Department atNorth- western University, and a part timedebate coach. She married Robert E.

Langan in 1960 and had her first and only child, Patricia Elizabeth, in 1962. From 1972 to 1978 she and her family lived in Darien, CT.
