24 Daily Press, Friday, May 13. 1983 Television Radio Row9 Horror Buff Pick On Sorority Row the other "House heroine character, and By HENRY EDGAR may not offer a lot of new angles to the horror film genre, but it brings a quality that's even more important. And this quality will earn the movie a nice place within the genre's history. It's a film no horror buff should miss. "House On Sorority Row," rated is showing at Coliseum IV and Anchor Drive-In.

sorority girls are competent. Lois Kelso Hunt as the housemother turns in a one-dimensional performance, never showing us the depth her character has to offer. However, that might be for the best, because if we felt much sympathy for her, it would be difficult to empathize with the girls. Director Mark Rosman, who also wrote the script, has done a skillful job, setting up each scene with care and creating suspense that holds your interest. Rosman is a young director to watch; he has a fine feel for blending all the ingredients that create an excellent film.

Unfortunately, the movie follows so many other horror films the action is often predictable. Had "House On Sorority Row" been released before "Friday The 13th" or "Halloween" created so many sequels and cheap rip-offs, it would have a much better chance to become a hit. Technically, the movie is far superior to the earlier efforts. Blood and violence are kept to a minimum, with "House On Sorority Row" emphasizing suspense rather than counting bodies that get slashed. Performances are varied but sexy Eileen Davidson is outstanding, turning in a cunning, realistic performance.

Miss McNeil is credible within the narrow confines of her virtuous Staff Writer Quality is a rare treat among the many horror films that hit area movie screens, but happily "House On Sorority Row" is one of those thrillers that offers an extra touch. A group of sorority girls decides to have a final party before their sorority house closes for the summer. They haven't told their eccentric housemother because they know she'd object. The night before the party, she appears unexpectedly while Eileen Davidson is entertaining her boyfriend on her water bed and slashes a hole in the bed with her cane, creating a minor flood. Miss Davidson vows revenge and calls upon the other girls for help.

They set up a joke on the housemother, but it backfires and she is accidentally killed. The terrified girls decide to hide the body in the pool, though Kathryn McNeil tries to talk them into calling the police comes the big party. And the girls begin to disappear one by one, each meeting death in a different way.
